Anyone have experience selling your wine collection?

We're moving and can't take our wine collection with us. It's not huge (about 75 bottles), but it contains some decent stuff. I had figured we could sell it through one of the auction houses, but it turns out they won't deal with a lot size worth less than $5,000 (and they are only interested in certain bottles- pretty much only the over $100/ bottle stuff). So what's a guy to do? I don't see anyone using Craigslist, so that seems to be out. I'm trying word of mouth through the local wine shop, but I'm kinda runing out of time. Not certain if folks here would be interested in any (or if it's even kosher for me to suggest it), but if you're looking for 50 cent on the dollar nice wine, let me know and I can send you a list.

I'm definitely interested in what you have. Could you post the list here? That way, the LTH community would know the range, types of varietals, and origins of wines in your collection.

OK, Here's the list. The "Price" is the current retail price or the price they have gone for at auction (most of these you can't buy at retail anymore). I'm looking for half of the price listed. All have been kept in a below grade temperature controlled cellar. Sorry about the formatting, the excel tables doesn't come through...

There is a montes alpha folly that is avail with the price somewhere around. $65 +

If you're willing to sell it piecemeal I'll take both bottles of the Ravenswood zin, 2002.

No- I think it's just the regular Montes. I put the list together a couple of months ago and now don't know if I typoed the 7 meaning for it to be a 1 or if I took the price from the wrong wine (Hart Davis does list the Montes Alpha M for $75.00). Either way, 75 is not correct for the bottle I'm selling, so the correct price should be $15.

Unfortunately, I see a couple of problems here:
(1) You have a lot of midrange stuff that collectors aren't going to be very excited about.
(2) Shipping the wine to out-of-state buyers is complicated and expensive.
Some online wine forums have swap pages where you could probably move a few of these bottles. But, sorry to say, I doubt you'll end up with anything close to $4000. Or even $1000.

Yes, but you'll note I'm only asking for $2000. And thanks to a couple folks from here and some other places, about half is gone (and I've managed to recover about 1000). You're absolutely correct that this isn't high end collectors stuff, but it allows someone to get into some wines that are typically above their price point.
