There is a Pete's Fresh Market opening very soon at the corner of Roosevelt and Summit in Lombard, or Villa Park, not sure what that is there...

I hope it is the kind of place where you can get Poblanos and Lemongrass anytime, unlike the Jewel and Dominick's near my house.

Speaking of Mariano's, the checkout lady at Dominicks told me that one is going to open across the street from the Dominicks in Bannockburn, though no signs of anything yet.

Funny you should mention that because I have some friends at Jewel in Highland Park that heard Mariano's bought land by Beeson's Nursery (possibly including Beeson's itself). I thought they were just going to take over the (lame) Dominick's there. Probably should because if a Mariano's did open in Bannockburn, that Dominick's location wouldn't last long. They think that Mariano's bought the land by Beeson's simply for a parking lot for their employees.

Bangkok Wok opened tonight in the former Ben Tre space. Just barely east of Kedzie on Touhy.

I stopped in for a menu and the place was packed! Maybe friends and family? At any rate, everyone was eating and the place was buzzing. :)

I don't think there is anything particularly earth-shattering on the menu but the prices are reasonable. I'll try them for some soup and Pad Thai first. Then if it's tasty, I will have a new Thai place right in the neighborhood.

The website is registered but not developed yet.

Overheard the owners of the Ramova telling people that they would be open another month today, so hopefully the close date of April 14th is no longer accurate.

Sadly, looks like La Amistad on Montrose near Wolcott has closed. I thought it better than your average burrito place, and their pico was made fresh.

That makes three Subway's in downtown Evanston if you include the one on Emerson that opened up a few years ago. I don't know why anybody would want to open up another Subway franchise. Thanks, Nancy

Subway must have virtually zero territory protection for its franchises. Granted I live in a densely populated area, but there are literally 16 Subways within a 2-mile radius of me. When I went to grad school downtown, there were at least 3 Subways within a block of the campus. It was ludicrous. I expect one day to see a Subway franchise open in the back room of another Subway.

    There are none.

In Crystal Lake, there is a Subway in the Walmart store.

There is a Subway in one of the outlots in front.

That type of franchise is WORTHLESS. You cannot make money as a franchisee.

Freddies fast food in the jefferson park CTA was closed and boarded up tonight. That really upsets me as it was a close distance from my house and i used to go there once in a while. I love places with really old school interiors.

To my knowledge I don't think so though i was wondering the same thing. I am a regular of the Bridgport location and I think my husband and I would have jumped all over it if we had known a north side counterpart (close to where I work) was available. There was a second location in Lyons that closed last year.

Seems to be the same owners at White Chocolate Grill in Naperville.

Just out of curiosity, are all Ted's Montana Grills gone now? I was at the one in The Glen once. I can't say I was underwhelmed, because I was expecting mediocrity and that's exactly what I got.

The chain closed nine of its locations in February but still has about 40 active ones nationwide, including Glenview, Naperville, and Bolingbrook in Illinois.

I just learned that Chocolate Potpourri in Glenview has been bought by Affy Tapple in Niles. The Glenview operation -- which makes great truffles, glorious caramels, and multiple other delights -- will be closing on January 6. The product will continue to be produced at the Affy Tapple plant, but there is no word as to whether there will be a retail outlet, as there was at the Glenview production site.

I just got a postcard from Affy Tapple:

Chocolate Potpourri (chocolatetruffles.com) is now part of the Affy Tapple family. Come visit Marsha and find all your favorite confections as well as some new treats you've never had before!
    New Location:
    The Affy Tapple Store
    7425 N. Croname, Niles, 60714
    affytapple.com

Nothing about Chocolate Potpourri comes up when you go to the Affy Tapple website. On chocolatetruffles.com, there is this message:
We are pleased to announce that Chocolate Potpourri has been acquired by Chicago based Affy Tapple, LLC. Affy Tapple is currently a leader in the gourmet handmade confection marketplace through its Mrs. Prindable’s brand. Since developing the gourmet caramel apple category in 1985, Mrs. Prindable’s has been a leading specialty confection producer, sold through the most well-known stores and http://www.mrsprindables.com. Take a look to see some of the things we do!

We expect to continue the Chocolate Potpourri tradition of the highest quality specialty confections, such as truffles, toffee and enrobed products as well as creating new and exciting confections for our mutual customers. As a valued Chocolate Potpourri customer we wanted to share this exciting news.

It will take a short amount of time to transition to into our new location in Niles, IL. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by this move. However, we expect you will be very happy with the results!

    Hi,

A friend called to advise Highland House, corner of Rts 41 and 22, in Highland Park has been razed.

Until it unexpectedly closed some years ago, it was a motorcyle mecca every Sunday morning for breakfast. It was close to Michael Jordan's house, so I would take out of town visitors over to see the commotion at Highland House, then over to Michael Jordan's home.

As recently as a week ago, I could still see the cashier stand with a just left for a moment look.

I heard the Fat Man Inn, at the convergence of Milwaukee Ave and Rt 41, is where the motorcyclists have drifted to. The real fat man died some years ago was a motorcyclist, too. It would seem a reasonable place for the action to relocate. Plus overflow could go to The Point across the street.

I know the McDonald's across the street wanted to develop this land. I guess it is now wait and see on what will happen next.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
