I have a new, very strange obsession. I admit it. and that's half the battle I hear. I love fried pickles. And they seem to be quite the new rage. Just not in the northwest suburbs. The only place I seem to be able to find them is Smashburger. Has anyone seen them anyplace else. I'm in the extreme NW burbs, Lake in the Hills, out near Crystal Lake, if that helps ;-)

My favorite fried pickle is at Handlebar (2311 W North Ave, Chicago). It's especially good with their bloody mary.

My favorite fried pickles out west are:

    The Walnut Speakeasy
    214 Walnut Avenue Elgin, IL
    (These are spears)

    Geneva Ale House
319 West State Street Geneva, IL
    (These are slices)

Further north in your direction, I believe some of the chains along Randall have them. Cheeseburger in Paradise and Famous Dave's come to mind -- however, I recall them being extremely greasy and not worth the heartburn at both of these spots...

Austin BBQ in Wheaton has some pretty good fried pickle spears. They come either as an appetizer or as a side.

Porkchop for brunch today; had to have the fried dills.

The cornmeal crust, though a little thick, is definitely the way to go, with every pickle coin quite a substantial mouthful. Next time, double order.

I can't say I am an expert on fried pickles, but they have fried pickles (dill chips) with buttermilk sauce at Smash Burger.

It tasted ok to me - but I am mostly passing this on to those who may have a fried pickle craving and a Smashburger appears in front of them.

Although not chips, I love the fried pickles and okra at DMK burger bar. Extra crispy dill pickles & crisp, not mushy okra that is always served so hot that I'm guaranteed to burn my mouth. Love the pain.

Got an order once from Calumet Fisheries to go with some smoked salmon and smoked shrimp. A nice combination.

I don't eat a lot of fried pickles but I like the ones at Calumet Fisheries. They put dill in the batter, a nice touch.

I'm going to have to echo the Handlebar suggestion. Their fried pickles are spears rather than slices, which is clearly the best way to serve them! I always manage to find places that serve fried pickles by the slice, though by looking at the pictures in this thread it appears I'm the only one.

I came here to post this too. I love their pickle chips -- they are lightly beer battered I think. Really good.

If you find yourself in Kankakee needing fried pickles, Jaenicke's can take care of you.

Maybe not the best fried pickles I've ever had but they're not bad at all and you can't beat the signage. And don't forget Wiener Wednesdays.
