The very night we saw the re-run of Peter X. Kelly beating Bobby Flay on "Iron Chef", The Other Dr. Gale was on the phone getting rezzies at his X2O in Yonkers. We went there for lunch last Tuesday. Terrific experience all around. It's on the second floor of a renovated, all-glass former factory situated right on the eastern shore of the Hudson. The view alone is worth the trip. Beautiful room, relaxed but totally correct service. Extremely well-chosen wine list, with excellent values. Lunch is starter, main, and dessert for $25. At this price point, the chef is basically giving it away. Among us we tried a sizeable range of the offerings, including a cod special, the charcuterie plate, wild mushroom ravioli, incredibly inventive short-rib + foie gras ravioli (actually, more like jiao zi than ravioli), pork loin (which was in fact a Kasseler rippchen), and the special baby lamb loin chops.

We are going to hit this place every time we make the transit between Montréal and Long Island. Just a total delight.

    Sorry no pix... :(

For a review of Xaviar's at Piermont (in Westchester County, also one of Peter X. Kelly's restaurants) with photos see:

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
