    LTH,

In the nature of you've got to be F'ing kidding me, Ferran Adria of El Bulli has developed, with Lay's, a line of potato chips. Currently available only in Spain, coming soon to a grocery near you.

Garlic and rosemary are incredibly tame flavors. Kind of disappointing.

Here's hoping the third flavor is aerated sea cucumber, or something.

Does this mean that Homaro Cantu design Cheetoh's are next? His packing peanut technology would fit right in.

I had some generic cheetos last month that tasted nearly identical to the cornstarch packing peanuts you can get nowadays. I wonder who inspired whom.

On a somewhat related topic, I saw a bit on the PBS show "How to Cook Everything" featuring Jose Andres, DC's Adria protege.

The stuff he made looked great, if a little outlandish. But in terms of personality, the guy was killing me. This dude needs a cooking show. Bam. Not.

After seeing Andres, I also thought that Cantu and Achatz might be taken more seriously if they developed Romantic accents and the arrogant yet endearing attitude of the Spaniard.

In a fit of Rioja-related insomnia, I watched several espiodes of this show that I had not seen previously. Pretty fair show: good chefs, good banter. Even that AOC chick was there. (Kahan looks like he eats that fat-cooked-in-fat stuff. She does not.)

    Jeff,

I think you mean Avec, A.O.C., and sister restaurant Lucques, are in Los Angeles, Avec and Blackbird Chicago. Had dinner at Lucques 7-8 months ago, was really quite good. The Avec "chick's" name is Koren Grieveson.

Never saw the show How to Cook Everything, guess I'll have to hit the Tivo button in case I get Rioja-related insomnia myself. :)

    Enjoy,

We'll wait and see what JeffB says, but it would make perfect sense if he's talking about Suzanne Goin, Wiv.

Paul Kahan and Suzanne Goin are very good friends.

    Erik,

Makes sense as, and I believe it was you who told me this, Avec is modeled after A.O.C.

Yes, yes. What I meant was, you have these two talented pals that cook solid, rustic, wine and Earth type foods which embrace fat. (Goin's main dish was a very fatty pork shoulder "confit".) Caul fat also makes a cameo in the episode. But Goin manages to be one of those LA stick people. Genes, I guess.

I can't wait to try Ferran's chips! I have to admit that I'm Lay's addict in Europe - Jay's back in Chicago of course. Best Lay's are the Poulet Roti et Thym/Roast Chicken and Thyme in France and Jamon in Spain. I always bring back 3 bags for my dad - I inherited the potato chip addiction from him. OK - now I'll have to bring Ferran some of my absolute favourites - Jalapeno Krunchers.

And Jose Andres did just start his own cooking show in Spain this year - he's a huge hit.
