I'll second Arturo's. I'll even go there during the day to vouch for the quality of the food. I've certainly been there in the wee hours of the morning, but it's just as good during the day.

All updated with the addition of America's Dog, Uncle Sammy's and the above. There is another place on Devon that I saw coming home Saturday and now I can't remember what it is.

Thanks Panther! That's a great addition to the list. Would you mind updating it every once in a while? It doesn't have to be every time I update the master list. Maybe once a season?

Thanks for your work on this topic! I just happen to love maps. :)

If you have a Gmail account I can add you as a collaborator. Then you could feel free to add, delete and add comments to the map as you see fit.

I mentioned a few of the better ones above. There are other lesser, but still okay, late night barbecue houses on the South Side: Alice's, Best, I-57, Mary's etc. DD&S closed years ago.

If you tackle the 40+ places I listed above, note that D&L Snack Shop is now Belmont Snack Shop (3407 W Belmont). Still 24 hours, still depressing. Looks like they got rid of the "Time to Eat" neon in the window, a shame.

I can't find Best without a lot of links leading to "Best BBQ in Chicago" type lists. Do you know the approximate address?

    As for Mary's, I assume you mean Mary's Bar-B-Que at 606 S. Pulaski? There's also a Mary Lee's Smokehouse at 2 E. Cermak.

Ah, sorry, it didn't occur to me that Best BBQ might be a little tricky to search for. It's at 1648 W 115th, just across I-57 from I-57 Rib House at 1524 W 115th. Actually there are multiple locations of I-57 Rib House now but I'm not sure which are currently in business.

Yes, I meant Mary's on Pulaski (I guess that would be the West Side, not South) but I wouldn't be surprised if Mary Lee's also qualifies. I'd guess the majority of South Side barbecue houses are open at least to midnight on weekends but I can't keep track of which are still in business (I used to maintain a list but it got to be too much trouble).

If you have any questions about the 40-some places I mentioned above don't hesitate to ask. In most cases I had only partial information (no doubt some of it wrong) so I decided to include name only.

Has anybody been there? It appears to be giving the gyros joints some late-night competition.
