PBFluff and I just spent 9 days in Italy as her birthday present...We had a fantastic time at a place called Il Fontanaro, which is about 90 minutes north, via train, from Rome in Paciano, a town of about 900 people. It is an organic slowfood place that has their own vineyard, olive fields and honey production facilities. They produce their own organic olive oil, that was some of the best that we tasted in all of Italy. The owners, Alina and Lucia (mom and daughter) are great hosts. Their wine cave boasts hundreds of great wines from around the world. We were fortunate enough to do a private bread baking class in their outdoor wood fired oven. The second day, we had a private wine tasting tour and visited Montepulciano, and got into some wineries that normally do not allow guests, since Alina is a Sommelier. Lucia and Alina are also great cooks, and you feel like you are family when you visit.
This is a great food destination and a place not to be missed if you want to visit the Umbria/Tuscany region of Italy. It is situated in a great location to be used as a base for day trips.
PM me if you want additioanl information.
