Any espresso cafes near the John Hancock building?

Will be in Chicago for five days staying a block from the John Hancock building. Are there any espresso cafes of note nearby to start the day? Note: we lived in Seattle for a number of years and loathe Starbucks, so that is not an option. Thanks in advance.

L'Appetito is an Italian deli right at the John Hancock building in the lower courtyard. Nothing earth shattering, but they have tables to sit down and serve espresso and snacks (sandwiches, pizza, pastry)

If you are an espresso aficionado, you should try to hit Intelligentsia during your trip. There are three locations (addresses are below). The Millennium Park location is the closest to the Hancock, though it is a mile away.

I believe there is a Lavazza in the Drake Hotel (140 E Walton Pl), which is about a block from the Hancock. That is a safe bet.

The observatory at the Hancock also has a Lavazza cafe, but the only way to get there is to pay the admission.

I haven't been to Bar Toma at any hour, but it is a block from the Hancock.

You might also check out the King Cafe in the 900 N Michigan building. They use Metropolis coffee, which is locally roasted.

Excellent advice which I enthusiastically endorse.

King Cafe is solid and close to where you are staying, but Intelligentsia is worth visiting if espresso perfection is important to you.

Thanks for the replies. Bar Toma and King Cafe look like they are worth a morning visit. We'll hit Intelligensia a couple of times while we're in the Loop area.
