My husband and I used to go through a 2-lb brick of Cabot Hot Habanero Cheddar, which we could only ever find at Costco, on a biweekly basis. This stuff is hot and delicious, with a nice solid texture that I like in an "everyday" cheese. Then about a year ago, our Costco (the one in Chicago on Clybourn) stopped carrying it. We asked around at the store and employees there seemed to think it was just out of stock and it would come back in eventually. We look every time we go - once every couple months or so - and it's never returned. I've also checked at the Costco on Patriot Blvd in Glenview: no dice. What's maddening is that the Cabot website, which has a convenient product locator, says every Costco in the Chicagoland area carries it: http://www.cabotcheese.coop/store-finder/

We did locate small bars of it at Dominick's, but compared with Costco, the price was a complete ripoff. I think it was $7.89 for a 12-oz bar, when at that price we were getting a whole 32 oz at Costco. (Note that that did not stop us from purchasing it at Dominick's :P)

My question for you, LTHers: Have any of you seen this big brick of Cabot Hot Habanero Cheddar at Costco or other warehouse stores in the area recently? I will drive a distance to find this cheese.

Hi- I know that they carry Cabot cheese at Sam's club, but I am not sure if they carry that kind. I don't believe they carry that kind of cabot cheese at Jewel, but Jewel has their cabot cheese on sale through Sunday for buy one get one free. The sale is only on the cabot cheese that is mixed in with the regular cheese such as Kraft. The Cabot cheese that is mixed in with the specialty cheese, is not on sale, and is considerably more expensive. You can also go to the coupon website common kindness, and you can print a coupon for $1 off 2 for any cabot cheese. With that website, when you redeem your coupon, the website gives a few cents to the charity that you have designated. There are thousands of charities to choose from. BTW- Neither Sam's or Costco accept coupons.

    Hope this helps, Nancy

Saw the 8-oz. bars on sale at Fresh Farms Niles yesterday for, iirc, $3.99. There were a variety of types, but definitely the habanero was there.

Costco has authorization to carry the large size Habanero, but that does not mean, as you know, they do at this time. Please keep asking the Dairy Manager to restock. Also in the meantime, check the dairy case for the 8 oz Habanero at Dominick's. It will be less expensive than the parchment bar in the deli area. We appreciate your support of our farm family owners! ~Gail

Just a suggestion - it would be nice to search for recipes by each type of cheese. I often have a cheese on hand and want to know what I can make with it, as opposed to looking up a recipe and then trying to remember to grab that cheese next time I'm at the store.

For example I have the Habanero Cheddar in my fridge right now. I'd liked to see recipes using that if possible.

You can search for recipes only on the top right of our Cabot page and select the type of Cabot Cheddar you have on hand. Narrows the recipes down to some delightful choices!! Thanks for asking! ~Gail

Cabot Habanero is (in the small blocks) at Strack and Van Til on Elston. I saw other Cabot cheeses, but not the Habanero, at Trader Joe's.

Hope you will speak to the Dairy Manager at Trader Joe's and request they stock Cabot's Habanero Cheddar! Usually works! Thanks for checking. ~Gail

Thank you so much for the heads up. I went there on 3/30 and got two big bricks of it. Made my weekend :D
