China Hut serves Bourbon Chicken. I actually tried it as a lunch special. It is not bourbon-tasting in the least. Rather it is closer to orange chicken without the Orange flavor, breaded fried chicken in a sweet brown sauce. Having never eaten it before, I couldn't tell you if what I had was a good version of the dish. It was certainly edible, but not really my cup o'. However, the lunch specials at China Hut are a great deal, and they do make some decent Ameri-Chinese dishes.

Almost every offering that the people are passing out on trays in front of their mall stands is various forms of Bourbon Chicken. I remember one time having three different samples and thought they were all the same.

    HI,

Mall bourbon chicken has no breading. My typical order is Bourbon chicken, dirty rice with some extra beans spooned on top and fried ripe plantain. A picture of a typical plate can be seen here and how it looks when you see it in mall.

    Regards,

I had never heard of Bourbon Chicken before today. Now after reading this, while I'm not sure I'll ever actually eat any, I am quite certain that I will never forget it. Would be nice, though, if someone did a Bourbon Chicken-a-thon and posted the subtle differences between the various ethnic/regional variations and can then answer that age-old question (OK, about 5 minutes and counting now for me) of which is better - Somalian or Asian?
Objects in mirror appear to be losing.

Swap out the Jersey shore for Staten Island and Vh1 for Bravo and it's been on for a year or two already.

Cathy's link of the bourbon chicken picture is about typical of the bourbon chicken I have seen at Manchu Wok at Lincolnwood.

Also, I have been meaning to ask, any knowledgable Somalians out there know what wine goes with bourbon chicken? :D

I like that mall chicken at sakkio...I thought it was teriyaki chicken. small bits of chicken grilled until some are crispy served with rice and some vegetables. Never heard it refered to as bourbon chicken which to me would be fried chunks in a sweetish sauce. but I do not know bourbon chicken from.....

Real talk - this thread is amazing. If you are indeed from OKC sir, you have certainly become a Chicagoan with your pluralization / possessivization (real word?) of random nouns (e.g. barleycorns, lincolnwoods, sabarros). Keep it up!

Free samples of Bourbon Chicken at Costco in Glenview this morning. I almost laughed out loud when I heard the sample guy telling me to "come on over, get some Bourbon Chicken, no cooking, just heat it up"

It tasted like a bland version of orange chicken from Panda Express (which I've only had once about 8 years ago).

The Sarku Japan stall in the Westfield Vernon Hills Mall food court on Rte. 60 (Town Line Rd.) has this bourbon/teriyaki chicken of which you speak, almost identical to the pics shown upthread, and in slow times workers are out in force yelling 'tasty chicken!' & offering pieces on toothpicks. It is possible I'm getting it mixed up with the Cajun-style version down the way, past the Mickey D's and the 1-2-3 Potato, but this is worth sharing too because of its similarities in general.

Upon placing the order at the mini-cafeteria line, it looks like boneless, skinless, shards of thigh meat to me--griddled, pushed, cajoled in oil and then given a spurt of a thick soy mixture. Slammed into a styrofoam sarcophagus compartment, accompanied by braised cabbage & a plastic bowl of slightly glutenous rice. Costs around seven bucks, extra meat $1.00 more.

Tastes OK--very General Tzo-like--compared with the other dreck in that food court, but remember to order a big gulp-size soft drink because believe me, you'll need it. Amazing how something that starts out relatively healthy-like can make you tremendously thirsty from the salt content while simultaneously giving you a sugar buzz from the corn syrup in the sauce.

Precisely why it should just involve real bourbon. ;-)
