I see no dedicated thread on Alliance Bakery and in my quest to ensure that the artisans of fabulous refined carbs are adored on this forum I'm starting this thread. There are threads where Alliance is mentioned as a great place to eat or work with wi-fi. Apparently, they also serve a mean seasonal pumpkin cupcake & kouign aman, but I think to be fair to them, they should have a place where all of us who love them can say so in one spot.

Some of you know me and are aware of my self-imposed year without. It has been a year without candy, cake, ice cream, or pie sweetened with sugar. Still I recall fondly, my birthday party and beautiful birthday cake from Alliance Bakery in 2011.

The cake was a perfect tasting red velvet(it is NOT chocolate cake dyed red) and it was drop-dead gorgeous.

    Stellar-tasting product and fine folks.

    They have a website.

I love a lot of their stuff. I'm still working through what I bought yesterday, but this morning I had their "Ellen" and it was great. I already mentioned their kouign amman. They have lots of great things, including refrigerated French pastries as well as risen bread type stuff. They also sell housemade dog biscuits, which are a big hit among the four-legged members of my household.

Someone who I respect on this board has mentioned that they thought the apple fritters were better here than at OFD. I find this inconceivable, I've had ok things from Alliance (the red velvet cake cupcake was dry and didn't have cream cheese frosting) and I live right down the street. Pairs4life, has also had the fritters at OFD, I'm wondering if you have had them here. It is my goal this weekend, to find this fritter, and see if this could possibly be true.

Like the cakes, love the space, tolerate the hipster staff, love the coffee and macarons, hate, really hate, the awful paczki, but love that they continue to make them come Fat Tuesday in recognition of the neighborhood and store history. It is an essentially cool place that has a good vision and intentions, plus obvious pastry skills. But I'm hardly one to judge. My favorite desserts are cheese and bourbon and I prefer the rustic (Dinkel's German chocolate cake, maple bacon donuts, best kolacky ever) to the precious when it comes to patisserie. To that end, I should try the apple fritter. Surprised they make one.

I thought it seemed odd. Given the other things they carried & no I've never had the fritter from there.

I'm not a huge fan of cake, cup- or otherwise, so I haven't tried them here. I prefer smaller bites of more dense, richer desserts. Along that line, they have something they call a "Michelle" that is fantastic. Chocolate, peanut butter, raspberry.
