I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with your post (good luck, by the way, I love chinese food in Peru, but I've never had it in Mexico city) but I am in possesion of a fact of trivia which I never get to share - there were actually chinese and japanese in Mexico in the 16th and early 17th century, quite a few of them. the spanish were mining mexican silver, and the biggest market in the world for silver was china, and the silver was used to buy luxury goods that Europeans wanted. the trade went mexican silver to china, chinese goods to mexico which were then shipped to Spain. among the people imported were japanese mercenaries to protect the silver mines. unfortunatly, that origional population died out or were diluted long before they had time to impact the culinary traditions of mexico
