I'm from New York and you can get at least passable cold sesame noodles from even the lamest of take out chinese places. I have a huge craving for that generic americanized east coast cold sesame noodle flavor and attempt to make a homemade version, while tasty in their own right, are not scratching that itch. I'm willing to travel basically anywhere between Hyde Park and Evanston to get some. Help?

Outside your range but the Silk Mandarin in Vernon Hills makes a very good version.

So, thanks for the tips, so far. I tried Lulu's last night. It was pretty delicious, but was missing something for me. The noodles were too thin and insubstantial and the sesame "sauce" lacked oil, spiciness, salt, and had virtually no ginger flavor. I will definitely be getting it again, despite these missing features since it's convenient for me, as I travel to Evanston often on Friday evenings, and it's just tasty. But any other suggestions would be great.

Not within your geographical parameters and not as Americanized, but since you're looking for spiciness, if you ever find yourself in Arlington Heights you should try the liang mian at Asian Bistro.
