I'm not sure there's anything I hate more than celeriac (maybe olives). I saw a recipe for Celeriac and Lentils with Hazelnuts and Mint in Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi that sounded good. Does anyone know a delicious substitute?

    Turnips should work fine.

I guess it depends on what you hate about celeriac, and whether the recipe uses cooked or raw celeriac. If it's raw, something like jicama would be a crunchy, bland substitute.

The recipe asks you to boil the celeriac until tender, then toss with cooked lentils, oil & vinegar, toasted hazelnuts, salt & pepper & mint.

I pretty much dislike everything about celeriac.

I bet just Lentils with Hazelnuts and Mint would be a tasty dish.

Probably. But with something hearty and starchy added I won't have to make anything else.

Yeah, I would think turnips, rutabaga, potatoes, parsley root or parsnips should work. Heck, maybe even kohlrabi. If I were to err on the side of caution, potatoes would be my choice. Inoffensive, and pair well with lentils.

Potato. It reminds me a lot of celeriac. Why on earth do you hate it so?

I can't put it into words. I hate celery too, maybe that's why. It's unpleasant and celery-y, only stronger.

Cauliflower sounds like it would work in this recipe.
