    I dunno C2. Doesn't sound very danceable.

Most of what I listen to is not. However, you might learn something. :)

A few hours ago, we went to see Jiro Dreams of Sushi at the Siskel Film Center. Great movie, as expected, and the soundtrack made it that much more enjoyable.

Exerpts include andante from Mozart Piano Concerto #21 and Bach's Suite #1 for unaccompanied cello, as well as selections by Phillip Glass.

Pandora! What's playing right now's not important (ok, it's UB40, "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You"); what I'm happy about is that today I got it connected to my office stereo so that I can hear it through good speakers and control it, both content and volume, without turning away from the computer.

Used to have an old computer hooked up to the stereo downstairs just for Pandora purposes, but it wasn't very satisfying. Too much stalling and stuttering. Not sure if that was due to the slow processor or the wireless transmission, or both.

(Thursday, July 5) What's for dinner....in the year 2035? Josh Schonwald has been scouting the food production and invention scenes and, in a new book on the subject, he forcasts many new salad greens (formerly weeds), test-tube meats and lots and lots of factory-raised fish, plus the discovered cuisines of Peru and Africa. He and two major chefs [Homaro Cantu and Chris Koetke] join us tonight at 10 PM to forecast the coming commestibles.

Monday, July 9 Cancer in dinosaurs, impotence in stallions, fainting dogs, gorillas with clinical depression: these are some of the animals we meet in "Zoobiquity," the new book by Dr. Barbara Natterson-Horowitz who is convinced that we can learn a great deal about human health and its restoration as we examine the case histories of other animals. She and her co-author, science journalist Kathryn Bowers are our guests tonight from 10PM to Midnight.

It took one of our Canadian brothers to bring home the beauty, sadness and strangeness of this North American classic, which many of us may associate with the Henry Fonda movie. From Americana, which is way worth $9.99 on iTunes.

Yupp. One of my favorites. I'm a big fan of all of Pharoah's work, especially Tauhid ("unity" in Arabic), the now out-of-print session that features mad genius guitarist Sonnny Sharock on the towering avant garde classic "Upper and Lower Egypt."

Update! Tauhid is available on Spotify! Just when I think there's a (relatively) obscure Jazz disc they won't have, bam, there it is. So yeah, that's what I'm listening to now.

upper egypt turned me out- especially the last few mins when pharoah comes back. way too many memories of that starting w/in 1970, i was about to put on the who live @ leeds when my cousin (a horn player) said, "i think i have something here you'll dig". i never knew music like that exisited and it started me on the road (well travelled) of my percussion career. i actaully have those exact sounding indian strung temple bells in my studio among numerous shakers and toys ala pharoah. a major influence (along w/elvin) on my playing. i use all that shit in my most recent brazilian project "casa de soul".

Pharoah! I was turned on to "Creator" as a freshman at UIUC on a trip down to Allerton by some buds from the city. Absolutely love all the Impulse records (the ones rereleased in the 90s) Tauhid, Karma, Deaf, Dumb, and Blind, Thembi (especially now), and Black Unity. I'm also a huge fan of Bill Laswell produced/curated collaboration with Mahmoud Gania, The Trance of Seven Colors, a rhythmic riot in the Morrocan Gnawa tradition punctuated by Pharoah's screaming sax solos. I have been fortunate enough to see Pharoah play several times over the years including a noteworthy chest- thumping rager at the '97 New Orleans Jazz Fest underneath the tumultuous skies of an oncoming tempest, truly one of the most memorable live performances I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing!
