Last night after coming home from a concert in Downers Grove, my friend suggested we stop for ice cream at Baskin Robbins in Lisle. I have not been to a BR for many many years after it long left Wheaton, crowded out by others such as Oberweis and Tate's which makes their own ice cream. Many decades ago in my youth, I loved the flavor Dacquiri Ice. I believe this was invented by BR in the sixties. I would get a two scoop cone either of pistachio and one of dacquiri ice, or brownie chunk and dacquiri ice and I would swoon at the refreshing taste of what I am sure is faux lime rum bluish greenish goodness. Well, Dacquiri Ice is back in the original formula. Supposedly it was missing in action for a long time and then BR did a stupid New Coke thing by bringing a hideous version back that fortunately I never tasted. They have brought the original back now and its as good as ever. Creamy but not milky, smooth, otherworldly blue green limey rummy sherberty goodness. I did some googling and found that it even has a facebook fan page and many people were petitioning BR to bring back the original. So if you have a hankering for a refreshing sherbet like taste of something cold give Dacquiri Ice a try. Its yummy and I am glad its back.

P.S. My friend loves Jamoca Almond Fudge and its also still there same as before.

P.S.S. I would love to make "Brandy Ice" by mixing Dacquiri Ice with light Puerto Rican Rum. Yum.

I have to tell my brother about this.
When we were kids he loved that stuff.
    Thanks!

Daquiri Ice Punch was a sorority-house Rush Week standard at ASU. Rush Week was (and still is) held in mid-August, just before school started, meaning during the most godawful hot part of the year, and during our so-called monsoon season. This stuff probably saved a few unsuspecting out-of-state freshmen from heatstroke during that ordeal!

    Hi,

My niece Elizabeth has adored this flavor ever since she was a little girl.

I have to admit, I was always surprised at her enthusiasm for this flavor. I felt it was likely more an adult oriented flavor rather than kid. Yet, she almost always ordered it for many years. The exception was during Christmas when they offer Winter White Chocolate.

My next effort will be to alert the dear girl.

    Regards,

Great news. We were all crazy about dacquiri ice as kids. The crazy color and dizzy artificiality of its every aspect. Can't wait to try it again.
Also a big Jamoca almond fudge fan.
    Happy day.

    I loved Dacquiri Ice.
A scoop of that and one of Rainbow sherbet always hit the spot.

I guess I know where I am stopping on the way home this evening.

Daq Ice was a fave of ours too. Also, Lemon Chiffon, Baseball Nut,Pistachio, Almond Fudge, Coffee and Boysenberry were top summer favorites.

How "rummy" is it? I love lime and all citrus but fake rum flavor can stop me in my tracks. I'll stop for taste next time I find myself near a BR.

They do give out taste tests. I do not think it tastes strongly of a fake rum flavor. Its very good but you will have to see for yourself.

The lime part was great but the artificial rum flavor left a long lasting aftertaste I didn't care for.

Wow, did this bring back a memory. This was my favorite flavor as a kid. I think I like the grown-up name and the refreshing taste. My dad would take all 5 kids to play tennis on the weekends and as a rare treat, we would go to Baskin Robbins. I can still hear him exclaiming "36 cents for a cone?? That is highway robbery"

It doesn't have any recognizable flavor...kind of like the mystery flavor dum dum lollipop. My mother was a big fan.

I love the flavor which is probably pure chemicals. Love the ghoulish blue green color too and smooth texture.

I always loved the Dacquiri Ice Freeze (like a shake but with Daquiri Ice and no dairy priducts).

I also remember the temporary flavor "Can't Stop the Nuts" that was a product tie-in with the Village People movie called "Can't Stop the Music". The movie came out after Disco Demolition. It was not a success.
