Las Cazuelas on Elston just north of Lawrence is papered over. Wonder what took so long for that wretched place to heave its terminal breath.

A banner hanging on the building says "Coming Soon: La Quintas de los Reyes" or something pretty close to that. I have a sneaking suspicion that one overpriced mediocre Mexican restaurant is being replaced by another. But I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.

There's a restaurant in Aurora with that name that isn't bad. They make salsa for you tableside, and I think they serve breakfast all day. But there's no indication on their website as to expansion plans.

Garden on the Run, a new produce market, is opening 7/12 in Park Ridge.

This place looks neato...I'll have to check it out. Looks like it's where Kelly's Meat Market used to be.

Hi- According to their website, Garden on the Run is open now. I wonder how much local produce they are going to be carrying.

    Last Call for Baumann’s Bakery

Baumann’s Bakery at 12248 S. Harlem Ave. in Palos Heights has dealt with some tough problems in recent years including a car driving through the front window last month and co-owner Ray Baumann’s health issues that required a liver transplant.

The last straw apparently was the recent retirement of its longtime baker.

Co-owner Cathy Baumann decided enough was enough and will close the bakery for the last time on Saturday. She’s trying to find a buyer for the business, which she and Ray have owned for almost 30 years.

A true nightmare indeed. Traffic down Toughy already sucks and Walmart wants to shoot themselves in the foot by adding another locations a mere ten minutes away. It's great for my dad I guess since he loves Walmart and lives in the area

I noticed this too and I meant to post but forgot. I had been to Las Cazuelas exactly once in my entire life. My husband had taken me there for my birthday about seven years ago and it was not a first choice. We just got stuck with it because our first choice had mysteriously closed up shop. All I can say was bland, terrible and terribly overpriced. Fast forward more than a few years later after we got married and my stepdaughter moved to Jeff Park. Once while passing by in her car I told her about our experience. She said when she had first moved to the neighborhood she went over just to get some carryout and was shocked at the prices for the lackluster quality of the food. I'm just surprised they did not close up shop sooner.
