i forgot to ask who this new breakfast/lunch/brunch spot is named after, but it certainly has the cosy, comfy feel of someone's kitchen or dining room with its mismatched chairs, dishes and mugs. (an aside: this is what i was expecting to find at antique taco, but didn't). this place opened just a few weeks ago, across kedzie from the national guard armory on north avenue. my lunch today was off the breakfast menu and was a generous portion and quite delicious. it was sauteed wild mushrooms and poached eggs on 2 slices of french bread, with very good potato hash on the side. i'm very picky when it comes to poached eggs- i like them actually cooked- no runny whites, only runny in the center of the yolk and i got them exactly as i requested. the iced tea of the day was green/jasmine, served with raw sugar or pure via on the side. the owner, layla, was also our server and was very friendly and helpful. the place has a good, laidback, vibe, and i'll be going back. i support her attempt to serve as much local and organic as possible and still keep the prices user friendly.
