I always seem to have cans of cranberry sauce in my cupboard, left over from thanksgiving. I usually make my own fresh sauce or cranberry relish, but I have to keep a can of that jellied sauce that comes in one piece for those people who insist on Thanksgiving "just like Mom used to open". Anyhow, I was hot and thirsty last night and was tired of drinking ice water, and craved something sweet when I spotted a can of that jellied cranberry sauce. So on a whim I filled a big bender with ice and about 1/2 cup of water (maybe more) then dumped the can of cranberry sauce on top. I added a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice to counteract the sugar in the sauce, and blended the whole thing until smooth.
I was all set to chuck the whole thing down the crapper if it tasted as bad as I thought it might. Instead, I chugged the whole damned pitcher. It was friggin' delicious, sweet, tart, fruity, cold and thick (kind of like my ex). I couldn't stop drinking it. I wish I had more exact measurements to give y'all, but since it was just a weird experiment, I didn't pay attention. The one thing that would have been nice is some soda water instead of plain old tap water. Anyhow, if you have a can of cranberry sauce that has been kicking around your cabinet since last Turkey Day, you should give it a try. Some vodka or light rum might have made for
nice alcoholic version (and if you want to really get carried away, a sprig of mint).
