My hubby have a few hours to kill in the downtown area tomorrow. Can anyone make some recommendations for some really good eats for lunch? Our preferences lie around italian, mexican and american. We love to eat at everything from food trucks to 5 star so anything goes.
    Thanks all!

Can you be more specific where downtown? That potentially covers a lot of ground.

If you are on or around N. Michigan Ave, try Cafe Spiaggia or Purple Pig

How about Terzo Piano, the Tony Mantuano place at the Art Institute? Open 11-3 on Sunday; very good, fresh, locally-sourced light Italian food. Check it out.

Thanks Everyone! We get off at Union station and have about 5 hours to kill so we can kinda roam around. I looked on the Good Neighborhood restaurant list but I didn't see a location search. Thanks for all the support everyone!

In that case, a visit to the Sunday only Maxwell Street Market might be fun. It's not too far from Union Station and you'd have a chance to sample some great Mexican street food.

Just to orient you - the "Loop" is the historic central business district, named after the streetcars (now elevated trains) that made a circle around it. Union Station is just west of the Loop, just across the river. The Art Institute, our most famous art museum which contains the previously-recommended Terzo Piano, is on Michigan Avenue on the east side of the Loop, just over half a mile from Union Station. North Michigan Avenue extends north from there and is our upscale hotel/shopping district; the Purple Pig is north of the river about half a mile north of the Art Institute, and Cafe Spiaggia is a half mile further north.

Wherever you go, stop at Garrett's Popcorn to get some caramel and/or cheese popcorn for the train. They have several locations in the Loop.
