Watched and was fascinated by an Andrew Zimmern episode on Peranakan (Nonya) cuisine in Singapore. (For those who didn't see it/don't know: Peranakan (which means 'descendant') refers to the Chinese who settled in Indonesia about five hundred years ago and, in the case of the cuisine, it's about how the Chinese food absorbed and changed through the influence of the native Malay, Indian, and other communities. Take a look at
this fascinating thread to get some helpful notions.)
So intrigued that I thought see whether cookbooks are available. I found, to my surprise, a number are out there, both in and out of print. My difficulty is that I have absolutely no way to assess them. I can't tell a truly worthless one from a gem. Can anyone point me in the right direction (or, wonder of wonders, recommend a specific book)?
Many thanks.
