Could you be referring to Chicken Delights?

I nevert avidly visited Brown's. My parents were always into Church's, the late lamented Sisters Chicken and when no where else to go to, KFC. i remember going to the Skokie location once maybe twenty years ago and don't recall anything special, just that my parents were not too fond and never went back. About five years ago, my husband decided he wanted to give it a shot. Not sure if he said he ever went beforehand, but we went and we encountered that same issue at the location on Central and Lawrence, chicken cooked in what seemed like extremely old oil. So old it left a complete nasty aftertaste. I never wanted to go back after that.
But, damn, jimswside does make those fried mushrooms look good.
