All- so here's the big secret...shhhhh...My wife and I are going to be moving back to Chicago I believe sometime next year, though possibly late this year. One of the areas we're looking at is Andersonville, but it's an area I don't really know at all.

I'm in town for a few days and today I have a few hours free around lunch. Could you suggest a few places I might go for lunch by myself that would be walkable to the neighborhood- my plan is to eat and then to get some iced coffee or something and just walk up and down streets and explore parks and whatnot. (Yes, I've got a real estate agent for the house hunting and for the 10k foot view of things, but just walking the neighborhoods helps me too)

Anything you've got would be a huge help!

    Thanks

Andersonville is one of the best neighborhoods for restaurants, but lunch is not our strong suit.

    Here are some ideas:
    Big Jones
    Acre
    Hop Leaf

The Big Jones Boarding House lunch has lots of fans on here and that's where I'd start. Hopleaf lunch service is new since their expansion. That's where I'd finish :D Both are open on Mondays.

A couple of other possibilities are Icosium Cafe (Algerian, crepes) and Taste of Heaven (sandwiches, salads, delicious baked goods) if you're looking for something a bit more casual.

    Happy hunting!!!

On the north end of Andersonville, you could get iced coffee from the Coffee Studio. I have also enjoyed sandwiches from Piatto Pronto, which is just down the street.

I'm also a big fan of the Taste of Lebanon for their lentil soup. As boudrealicious suggested, Icosium Kafe could be a nice lunch stop as well. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and was impressed.

We moved to Edgewater, just east of Andersonville, two years ago and love the location. For us, it's a nice walk through the Lakewood/Balmoral area of Edgewater/Edgewater Glen to Andersonville. Proxmity to CTA express buses and the Red Line is excellent.

    Hi,

When you find yourself on Argyle, walk all the way east to Broadway. Step into a Chinese bakery for a BBQ bun to eat later today. While Clark has a lot to offer, so does Uptown which is so close by.

I understand you can pay Uptown-region taxes while being effectively in Andersonville, depending on where you buy in the neighborhood. Something to think about, if you care to.

Nice to know you are returning via Indiana and California, I'm glad you find returning to Chicago a pleasure.

    Regards,

Speaking of breakfast/brunch/lunch-focused restaurants, in addition to M. Henry at the northern boundary of Andersonville, Bongo Room just opened its third location at the southern boundary of Andersonville.

+1 on Taste of Lebanon. Such an underrated little place. The lentil soup is fantastic, and I also like their shawerma and baba ghanouj.

All- thanks for the help. Ended up at Hopleaf for the brisket sandwich and a beer. Walked through Balmoral, Ravenswood and Andersonville- all were lovely!

    Thanks for the help!
