I've been tasked with bringing in some food for a small group this Thursday night. We'll be at the Hyatt Regency Chicago - anyone have some good takeout or delivery ideas for me? The group is mostly from the UK, so I'm being encouraged to think about exotic "Chicago" food. But I can't do pizza or Italian Beef, as those have already been tagged for group dinners on other nights. And my budget is about $10/person. I was thinking about Thai - is there anywhere good downtown? And I'm not stuck on that at all - it was just an idea and I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Many people would say that Chicago has the best Polish food in the Western Hemisphere. Podhalanka, at Division and Milwaukee, isn't too far from downtown for carryout, but if you can get out to Smak Tak ... well, I think that's better. But both are GNRs; Smak Tak is also a Bib Gourmand from Michelin.

There's Thai in London. There's actually some Polish as well, and it's not a food that gets delivered, in my experience (though it travels fine). Chinatown delivers there, but again, plenty of that in the UK. I'd focus on Mexican or South American stuff, steaks and/or gourmet burgers. Beef in the UK still largely sucks, best I can tell. But just about every significant restaurant near downtown will deliver, usually though a 3rd party service. For a downscale place near the Loop that delivers, Perez. If it were me, I'd probably jump in a cab and pick up a takeout order at Xoco.

I strongly second Jeff's suggestion of Mexican, especially interesting tortas like you could get at Xoco. Or, if it'd be easier for you on your way downtown, Bombon Cafe at Ashland and Monroe also offers great tortas. I know Bombon has catered events in the past -- maybe they could deliver to the Hyatt. (If using Bombon, don't forget dessert as well!)
