On my most recent trip to Turkey, I discovered Pine Honey. It was served at all my breakfasts, and was absolutely amazing. I honestly can not take the "default honey" seriously after having tasted this stuff. It's produced in Turkey, Greece, and New Zealand. Does anybody know of a store in town (or suburbs even) that carries Pine Honey?

    Much appreciated!

My ex was from the Loire Valley & would bring jars of the stuff back to Chicago because he couldn't find it locally. It really is amazing, and if you do find some, please share the source!

They have it in France? Nice. The French know good food! Visited a place called Istanbul Market in Mt. Prospect today, but they didn't have it. I wonder if any Greek markets have it. Might have to import it. If only people here knew about this stuff. Some people would easily go crazy for it. One of the best kept food secrets in the world.

If all else fails, Amazon.com offers a few options. Pricey, though.

I am fairly certain that I've seen it locally...but I can't recall where for certain. The first place that pops into my mind is Marketplace in Oakton but it may have been somewhere else. (And, since I'm always caught offguard by some things there, Lincolnwood Produce might as well.) You might try calling them both. If I see it again, I'll post.

I've definitely seen it and Marketplace on Oakton comes to mind too.

I'm a huge fan of this stuff, having first tasted it in Arcachon, France; it's a local specialty of the Landes forest region. I never found any French pine honey here in the US, but there is a German brand I used to buy- so Gene's in Lincoln Square or on Belmont might have it. Give them a call. And post here, because I'd like to make pine honey ice cream this Xmas. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but HarvesTime has the following (across from the meat counter):

Orino conifer and herb honey from Greece $8.99

Breitsamer forest honey (with picture of pine bough on label) from Germany $7.49 - label describes it as tangy. I think I've also seen this at Gene's on Lincoln.

You should have plenty of choices. World Fresh Market on Devon carries Buram brand Pure Bee Pine Honey with Comb from Turkey at $12 for a 30 ounce jar. They have the Breitsamer Forest Honey and Orino "from herbs and coniferous trees" mentioned above. Also Langnese Forest Honey (from Germany; picture of pine needles and cone on the label).

If you try any of these I'd love to hear your opinion. I don't think I've ever had pine honey and might want to pick up a jar one of these days.

Thank you VERY much for the tip. I will definitely go and pick up some. Hopefully it's as good as what I had in Turkey. Get some though. You will never think of regular clover honey as good anymore. If chefs knew of this stuff in Chicago, I would be elated. Absolutely amazing ingredient.

Went to World Fresh Market tonight and found this stuff. Surprising how many different brands and kinds of honey they have. I picked up the Buram brand, which is 30 ounces of honey for like $12. Great deal in my opinion...even the stuff through Amazon is 16 ounces for $14.

Anyway, the stuff is pretty damn good. Not as sweet as I remember it from my breakfasts in Turkey, but nonetheless good. It doesn't have the weird flavor that a lot of honey does. Very smooth stuff. Not bad at all...
