Lao Sze Chuan North is just as good as the original. The cabbage appetizer was a little less oily and lacked some of the sesame flavor, but was still very nice. Chicken Crack was ON FIRE, among the best Ive had. Mapo tofu with pork was amazing with leeks and wonderful depth of flavor. Mayo shrimp was...well if you like mayo shrimp this will knock your socks off. I dont care for the glaze but the shrimp underneath were just about perfect. Boiled fish in Szechuan sauce might have been the highlight for me, I am trying to figure out how soon I can return for my own bowl that I dont have to share. Lamb with Cumin was better than Ed's Potsticker House, a feat I thought impossible. Salt and pepper squid were great but frankly I felt they were overshadowed by the other dishes.
Can't wait to return and am so glad there is a Szechuan option on the North Side at long last.
What is most impressive is that Tony has managed to recreate the menu so well while opening three restaurants in as many months. I believe it is a testament to the fine employees he must have.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.
