though a late comer to italian superior bakery, i've been a devoted fan of their breads, pizza, sandwiches and of the saccomeno family who have put everything they've got into reviving this landmark bakery. they've just announced that they'll be closing after the holidays and i'm sure that there are many of you who would like to have a final meal celebrating the bakery. THE NEXT SECTION IS NO LONGER APPLICABLE. SEE EDIT BELOW ( i've talked with the family and we thought a saturday would allow more people to come than a weekday, so we've picked 2 dates- november 10th or the 17th, that would work for them. they usually close at 11am now on saturdays, but they will be delighted to stay open for a group of LTH'ers. their dining room can hold 15. i thought we'd make it an early lunch so we don't keep them open too long. (maybe 11, 11:30).
angelo is inviting suggestions for the menu- they'd be happy to make a special meal, or we can have sandwiches and pizza. i don't really care, myself. i'm just eager to have this event. any thoughts? thanks! justjoan

A weekday lunch would work better for me. I won't be able to make either of those dates.

i'd be happy to contact angelo and see if a weekday lunch would be doable for them.. dave and steve, please give me some november weekdays that would work for you, so at least we'll have 3 of us who have expressed an interest and can agree on a date. in general, my work schedule is flexible. election day (11/6) is the only day i couldn't do it. but i'd prefer tuesdays, wednesdays or thursdays over mondays or fridays. thanks, joan

    Thanks for organizing.

    Joan--I'm interested also.
The first half of November works better for me than the second half, but I could also possibly make the last week work with enough advance notice.

I'm out of town the 17th - 25th. Other than that, if we schedule far enough in advance, I can make any weekday.

November 1,5,7,8,9,13,14,15,16. i'm sure we'll never find a date that'll work for everyone, but so far, we've got a goodly number of dates to choose from that we all can agree on. please think about what you might want to eat while we wait to hear from angelo. thanks, joan

Weekends actually work better for me but don't let that hold you back from choosing the best date for everyone.

i just heard back from angelo, at the bakery. they are interested in setting up a lunch for us on NOVEMBER 7, AT 1 PM. he'll be presenting some menu ideas soon which i will post. i'm sorry about the time for those of you who have to take a 12 pm lunch hour, but the bakery was definite about the start time. please post if you have any particular food requests. i'm starting a sign up sheet- the dining room can accomodate 15 people. for those who can't make this event, my apologies. but please consider setting up yet another 'last' LTH lunch. i'm sure the bakery would be happy to do this again.

zoid: so sorry the timing doesn't work for you.
leek: they often run out of pizza early, so you might want to call that morning and have them put aside some for you. i'd recommend the same thing for anyone who doesn't get there often and will be coming to lunch. i have favorites, but often have to settle for second or third choice. they all are basically the same, but with different toppings (except on that rare occasion when they make white pizza).

i'll put you on the signup list for now, steve, i hope you'll be able to make it. and i've already mentioned the prime rib sandwich to angelo as a favorite sandwich of many (myself included). i believe he is working up several menus at 2 different price points for us to choose from. i'm curious to see what he can come up with that would be new to all of us....and i might suggest that they bake an extra tray, or two, of pizza for the 7th, so there'll be plenty to take home.

Given the circumstances, I'm not sure if "new" is really what I'm interested in. I'd be happier having some old favorites one last time.

here's the latest on this wednesday's lunch at the bakery. there's room for 15 people, so please sign up here if you plan to come. angelo's offering some customer favorites for our lunch. and their pizza freezes beautifully so you might want to stock up if you don't get here often (and remember, they'll be closing the end of december). for those who haven't been here before, street parking is easy, particularly on the west side of western. thanks! (lemoneater , can you make a 1pm lunch? dave148- are you in?)
Lets say $12 a head: thinking we'll either do a family style set up or buffett style. we'll have an assortment of pizzas, pulled pork is the special w the roasted corn, i'll put out some muffuletta's and probably a small prime rib with the roasted potatoes. might throw in tossed salad or antipasto or deli salad.
