Where could I buy [i]country[i] ham slices in west suburbs? Based in Burr Ridge; prefer to go anywhere between Downers Grove and LaGrange. (Not the internet.)

    Appreciate the help!

Well, I was disappointed at the lack of response, so I did some inquiries on my own and I found the reason for no responses - there aren't any places for country ham between, say, Naperville and LaGrange.

Called every better-quality market and butcher I could think of and - nobody carries country ham. Closest I came, maybe, was Westbrook Market in Westmont, which offeres a smoked Polish ham. Haven't tried that yet.

Guess I'll look for Tasso or Speck.

    Nuts.

Man, you just *have* to go Internet. There's lots of good country ham out there--as near as Missouri--but you've either got to drive to them, or order them over the net. Sorry!

Depending on what you want, Burgers's smokehouse slices should be fairly easy to find.
    Vacuum packed in supermarkets.

I've lived in Kansas City off and on for forty years, had my share of Burger's country ham, all shapes and sizes. I've got to say: there's better out there. I lived in KY for a couple of years and learned about The Real Stuff.

My brother lives in Virginia and every year for Christmas sends me some variant of Surryano ham which is absolutely super. I highly recommend it.
