Oh no! I loved their guacamole! I hope they find a new location!
Also, Zapatista . . . near Clark & Fullerton. . . closed recently.

I assume this pertains to just the Lincoln Park location, and not the other two locations (South Loop & Northbrook)? The facebook page and the website have conflicting information. Very confusing!
LINCOLN PARK—The Lincoln Park location of Zapatista at 444 W. Fullerton, closed about three weeks ago. A rep at the main office said it was just a "corporate decision," and that another location will open in Naperville in mid-November. The South Loop and Northbrook locations remain open. [EaterWire]

That is surprising that they closed. Always seemed to have customers. Just walked by yesterday and no sign that they were closing. But they had offered a Groupon last week which is sometimes a bad sign. Too bad. Enjoyed it for late night Mexican.

Ashkenaz Delicatessen is closing its Gold Coast location, making way for a new restaurant dishing up lobster rolls instead of corned beef sandwiches. Howard Cohan, the deli's owner, said he sold the business to a restaurateur named J Wolf for an undisclosed price. Mr. Wolf will take over the 1,000-square-foot space at 12 E. Cedar St. and plans to open a restaurant called Da Lobsta.

I saw there menu, and it seemed like it was expensive to me. $6 for just a hamburger at a fast food place seems like a lot of money. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Nanccy
I was in there the week it opened, but I only had an order of fries (I had eaten at Pequod's earlier). They were pretty good. This place is another Epic Burger, Five Guys, Meatheads, Smashburger, M Burger, etc. People shouldn't compare it to the cheaper fast food joints. I'm surprised people aren't getting used to this by now. A burger meal with drink at these places is going to be around $12. Call it upscale fast food. Is it worth it? Maybe, maybe not.stevez wrote:NFriday wrote:Anyone been to That Burger Joint just down the street from Kaufman's in Skokie? I went the other day and left unimpressed. The burgers were cooked to oblivion and much too small for the size bun they use, though the bun is of good quality. Fries fared better. They were very thin, approximately the size of food service fast food chain fries, but were hand cut with bits of peel still attached.
I'll be heading just a few blocks east to Poochies the next time i get a burger craving in that neighborhood.

If it weren't for Manny's, there'd be no classic Jewish delis with authentic Chicago roots in the city outside of Frances' and The Bagel. Steve's Deli is OK, but it's an outpost of an out-of-state chain. Romanian Sausage isn't really a deli so much as a retail store that will prepare sandwiches to go. Not the same thing in my book as a proper sit-down place - or at least one with stools and a counter you can eat at.
I'm a little under 50, but there are times I miss the old days when Moe's Deli was on Rush Street where the 600 N. Michigan mall is now (I used to love their veal breast they'd have as a special occasionally), and Mort's Deli on Wabash. Except for fast food, you literally can't get a decent NY-style corn beef sandwich in the Michigan Avenue area anymore.
OTOH, we didn't have authentic Hunan or Thai food in those days. Progress is a tradeoff.

More, well, any Middle Eastern food in that area is very welcome, in my opinion. Thai is essentially covered, Mexican, Italian, Pizza...covered. Indian, Middle Eastern, and Chinese...yikes. Though Chinatown and Yilin are within striking distance, the Mid eastern Joints on south harlem are just about striking distance as well. Edible sushi is kind of hit or miss, and I'm talking about going to the same place and being hit or miss one day to the next. Middle Eastern tho, I'm excited to see there. 3910 South Harlem.

“We’ll be closed on Mondays at the beginning,” she said adding the dining room also would be closed for lunch during the week but would be open starting at noon on weekends.
