    Bourbon cotton candy

So we were at Meijer in Rolling Meadows and they had Rival cotton candy machines on clearance for $9.99. Who could resist?

We brought the thing home and set it up. It uses regular granulated sugar. You let the thing heat up, add sugar, and in a couple of minutes it starts spinning candy floss.

You can add 1-1/2 tablespoons of sugar at a time, which spins a smallish cone of candy, but of course you can keep making more.

The directions gave instructions for coloring the sugar, in case you want candy that looks more like what you get at the circus.

We made some white cotton candy. We made some blue cotton candy (blue being the only color of the food coloring in the back of the cupboard that hadn't dried up).

I thought, if you can add color, why not flavor? We had some lemon extract. We made blue lemon cotton candy. It was pretty good. We also had some Jim Beam....

We didn't add any color to that batch. Somehow blue Jim Beam cotton candy seemed over the top.

I meant to mention my favorite line from the directions, which caution one to use only granulated sugar:
Use of other sugar, including sugar substitutes, will not produce cotton candy.

I thought it was funny till I did I googled on "cotton candy" and found an apparently serious discussion about whether you could make it from Splenda.

I also discovered this recipe for a dessert that includes Guinness-flavored cotton candy.

    LAZ,

I think you should add green tequila-lime to your "recipes to try" list.

    Best,
    Michael
