soft opened this week, same guy as Jack's on Halsted

No mention of type of smoker, but he mentions using "fruitwood" to smoke

We actually filled out paperwork to take this space (2nd location) last summer, then the owner (of the building) backed out last minute - simply saying he had another tenant....I've had my eye on it ever since, very curious to see what type of tenant he found - alas, a BBQ Joint!

I lived near that corner for almost 4 years, and the space was always empty - but it's next to busiest grocery store (jewel) in the area, and has a TON of foot traffic. Angelina's Italian next door does very well, though we've always joked that Angelina's does all their shopping at Jewel next door, possibly even buying some stuff pre-made. Not bad, just not good (Angelina's) and they are always full.

If the food is any good (or even if it's not, frankly), he'll do very well in this location.
I love comfortable food, and comfortable restaurants.

I live just a few blocks from this place. I was excited to see it open, a BBQ spot in walking distance would be more than welcome. I finally tried it, and left with a very "meh" feeling at best. I got the brisket, which was not that flavorful, and swimming in more juices than I'm accustomed to. Sweet potatoes gave me the sense they came out of a can. And corn bread was nothing special. I might go back just to give the ribs and mac 'n cheese a try, but this is definitely not a place to go out of your way for. I'd still choose Angelina's next door over this.
