Nikko Sushi

I have been coming here for years. Every thing about dining here is delightful. You walk in, everyone who works there calls out hello. The service is always excellent. They have been in business for around 17 years.

The restaurant is a sushi/Japanese place, run by a Korean family. It's predominately a Japanese menu, but the Korean food is some of the best I've ever had. The cooking is done by the mother, her old family recipes. Everything is from scratch, and lovingly prepared. The son is the sushi chef.

Here's the lunch we had today. We sat down and placed our order.

We ordered some sushi (and they had bonito which i haven't had in a long time). We also ordered the kimchee stew and dolcit bibimbop.

Out came the complimentary 'amuse bouche', which is some fried, with beef, extremely tasty thing with sirracha on top. We were served amazingly fresh tasting sushi. The server came over with an fluffy egg dish whipped in an extremely hot pot that the owner had sent over. Very tasty. Then the server come back with an amazing concoction, not on the menu, from the owner. I don't even know what all was in it, but it was divine! And each time she came with something she said, my boss asked me to bring this to you. The miso soup and salad that followed were very good! The next to arrive was the Korean offerings. Both were truly amazing. Best kimchee soup ever, with many, many wonderful slices of pork belly in it. The bibimbob continued to sizzle for about 10 mins, making for some mighty nice crispy pieces. The panchen is always very nicely done, with offers to refill often. By now, I seriously thought I was going to explode! And lastly, was the green tea ice cream with the whipped cream, chocolate drizzle and sliced bananas.

There are a lot of posts on another site of how wonderful it is that they throw in all the free food, kind of the cruise ship mentality. In the overall scheme, it's not free food. The prices are high, and they make it a bit less painful with some add-ins. Smart business I think! Lunch today with tip (and alright the tip to the sushi guys too) was $75.00. But worth every penny. This is some of the best food I have ever had, and truly a great overall experience. And completely proves that good food can be found beyond the Chicago boundries

Our local "go to" sit down sushi spot has always been Naomi Sushi. Wonderful food and extremely friendly, accomodating owners. Nikko sounds quite similar with the bonus of freebies.
