    Hi,

We are in need of a tasty to-go Thanksgiving meal for 4-6 this year. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Restaurant Michael on Winnetka is an option. It's about 10 miles from uptown.

See if your local Boston Market is open. You can get turkey dinners there with a variety of side dishes. I do recall one year having to get a turkey dinner. I came down with a horrible flu or cold and had to stay home from wherever I was invited. Living in Skokie at the time. There was a restaurant I think it was on Dempster or Church and it had a big chandelier in it. Maybe it was called the Chandelier. Got 2 turkey dinners to go there. Restaurant is long gone and I have moved away. I guess if I had to do it and only had to buy a few dinners I would go to Boston Market. Failing that I would look into some of the greek run restaurants having full meals and see if they are open and try ordering from there.

Mr. Pie's family has often ordered from Boston Market and they make a fine meal. If corn pudding is on the menu, do yourself a favor and order a nice big tub.

Real Kitchen, at Montrose and Clark, offers Thanksgiving meals for takeout. I believe you have to pick them up before Thanksgiving and reheat them yourself.

I have to say I'm speechless - Boston Market as a recommendation on LTH? Is that really how this forum has evolved? This is a topic where I admit I lack knowledge since I've never done a take-out/delivery Thanksgiving, but I really hope the OP can do better than Boston Market. Water-logged, flavorless turkey, brown sugar topped with bits of sweet potatoes, 10-hour cooked green vegetables (that should normally be blanched) . . . okay, I'll stop there.

Prairie Grass Cafe has take out available, you order by Sunday, and then pick up your selections on Thanksgiving. I love the food here, and would certainly expect it to be one of the top offerings for this need. http://www.prairiegrasscafe.com/index.p ... eturnid=59

I believe Sun Wah has done take out Turkeys in their own style in past years. I don't know if they are doing that again this year.

We don't know the circumstances of the poster wanting a take out dinner. It could be that Boston Market is the closest and most convenient choice. I am sure there might be better choices. I have eaten at Boston M. a few times and had cooked to death stuff too but others it was not bad. Boston Market is not as bad as you are making it out to be. All I am saying is its an option. NOt all independent food restaurants are always that good either. It depends. I would rather eat something home cooked than go to Boston Market but if I had to do it and it was the only option close by I would. I would not drive ten miles to get a take out dinner that would arrive gluey and cold much less take up my time driving on Thanksgiving.

Mercat a la Planxa, Chicago, Illinois

Mercat is encouraging guests to put a little Spanish flair in Thanksgiving celebrations this year and order our suckling pig to go! Chefs will package up our famous “suckling pig” and all of the traditional sides so that it is easy to take home and serve to friends and family alike. The prices remain the same as they are in the restaurant, with a half pig (feeds 6-8 people) at $220, and a full pig (feeds 8-12 people) at $440. Both packages also include herb-roasted fingerling potatoes, rosemary white beans, espinacas a la catalana, and grilled green onions. Pig orders should all be placed 72 hours in advance so the chefs can prepare it at its finest. Happy Catalan Thanksgiving, everyone!

That's fantastic! We're hosting Thanksgiving this year and I have yet to get the spirit to plan the menu. I'm not very good on carving turkeys -- can't imagine the hack job I'd do on a suckling pig. :-)

Just wanted to thank Cinnamon Girl for bringing the Prairie Grass Cafe option to my attention. I'm working until 4pm on Thanksgiving and have an 8-month-old baby. Due to a variety of strange circumstances this year, it's just the three of us for Thanksgiving dinner and I really was considering bailing on tradition and ordering a pizza.

I placed my order with Prairie Grass yesterday and am looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner!

Looks like my plans have changed (maybe for the best), but I will not be spending T-day with the family. Instead I will be enjoying the holiday by myself. This leads me to my question:

I'm looking for "to-go" Turkey day options for 1! (poss 2, but most likely 1)
I have looked at the time-out article and other sources, but it seems that the meals are more family style oriented (i.e. needs at least 3-4 people) or for just the turkey/sides

I know B. Market is an option, and maybe thats where i end up. But thought I would open it up to the community for ideas. The meal doesnt actually have to be turkey, as i'm open to any type of food. Just want something good I can take home on Thursday.

    Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I butchered your quote, but can you do your take out on Wed, and fridge it?
If you can do this, your options could open up, you just have to look for things that keep well. I'd be thinkin bbq, or some stewy Indian food. Thai curry, things like that.

Boston Mkt tho? IMO, anyone can do much, much better.
Granted, I haven't had anything from there in quite a few years, but after they started adding carrot slivers to their dressing waaaaay back when, that was my dealbreaker with that joint.

Many restaurants are open on Thanksgiving. If you find one you like that is, you can call them and see if they will do a take out dinner. I know a lot of places near where I live have takeout even if they are regular sit down restaurants.

Well, 2 thumbs up for Prairie Grass take-out.

Picture isn't great, but we got a half turkey which I then cut-up into wing, leg, thigh, and breast before I re-heated with a little chicken stock. Also had delish mashed potatoes, apple stuffing, very fresh cran sauce, and (not pictured here,) brussels sprouts w/ bacon. They gave us a ton of gravy. I would definitely recommend this if you are ever in a situation where homemade is not going to happen.

Hi-While I was just checking my email on yahoo, I noticed that the Romney's ordered take out from Boston Market for Thanksgiving dinner, and yes I think the whole family was there. The dinner was held in La jolla, which is a suburb of San Diego. Mitt must own a house there. I did not realize he did. I have a cousin that used to live in La Jolla, and the town is very well to do.

It sounds like it was too much effort for Ann to do the cooking herself. I know that some people were aghast here at the suggestion that people order their Thanksgiving dinner from Boston Market, but if it is good enough for the Romney's. Hope this helps, Nancy

LOL, Romney, paragon of good taste. I'm surprised; I thought the Romney family feasted on the blood of poor children during occasions of merriment, myself.

    What did you do?

I don't know if you just wanted to eat at home, but the Thanksgiving meal served at Big Jones sounded amazing. We didn't make reservations in time, I left the idea to BFF & of course he waited until the last minute & I let him choose the restaurant in Chinatown(2nd mistake) before we went to the movie.
