I mourn the loss of the old fashioned bakery cheesecake we used to get at bakeries. It had a powdery looking brown top and it was cut from a loaf like chunk and probably sold by the pound. It was light and airy. Can't find that anymore. Enter recipes for Japanese cheesecake. Looks very similar or like the same thing.

Is anyone familar with Japanese cheesecake to see if this is similar? I am not sure any bakery carries the old style cheese cake I am think of now.

The old-school version was the subject of a search that took me to most every Polish bakery on the southwest side; you even responded to the post! http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8982

Definitely try to hit up Europa. I found after a trip there that they sold it at a grocery much closer to me, Family Pride, on 107th and Pulaski. Might want to call and ask if they sell it to any other purveyors.

As for Japanese cheesecake, I can't help you out. But finding the esteemed SW-side spongy cheesecake definitely brightened my life by a notch or two. I think you owe yourself a visit.

Yes those are the ones. Unfortunately all of the places are quite far from where I live and on the s. side.

That seems just like the one my dad liked from Oven Fresh! It was airy and maybe a little cottage-cheesy. I'll have to try this and see if it's the same.
