I'm probably not a great authority to calibrate what "not too ethnic" could mean, as I fiercely love the ethnic dives. (Motto: The spicer the better; The more water stains on the ceiling tiles, the better; The less English spoken, the better.) Also, I gave up on "vibes" years ago - my ideal restaurant scene is byob, insanely good food, and a table to eat it on - utensils not really needed.
