This looks perfect for the kid's new "workout" diet for wrestling and between class snacks. $11 in Japan, but importers want either a flat $75 or $25 with $36 shipping. I would be needing four, and at the import prices, that is stupidly out of budget. With his schedule and the stupid imposed dietary rules, he has to start bringing in lunches. (6:am to 6:pm with two weight room workouts, an hour swimming, and two times a week after school scouts on the limited calories the feds impose....). That and due to "adulterated by kids" beverages I have to get large cans of OJ for him to pass school inspection. (A couple of kids got drunk with brought in screwdrivers in plastic oj bottles, so plastic containers are banned).

Otherwise, any suggestions for a food grade 6 to 12 inch tube that has resealable ends to hold "real" sushi rolls? I already make sushi rolls for him, but i would like a tube like device rather than a bento box to "snack" on between classes and workouts.

For those with hands that do not work as well anymore, or lack the skill with the mats, the "sushi bazooka" or under the other name "sushezi" is great for rolls.

Hi- Have you checked out places like HMart? I was just in there a few weeks ago, and they have lots of cooking gadgets. They are on Oakton and Waukegan in Morton Grove. There are some similar Asian supermarkets that I have not been too, that you might want to check out too. I know Hmart has another store in the Western suburbs too. Hope this helps, Nancy

I have a couple of neighbors that do not drive long distances (from Vietnam, Hong Kong) that I drive to h-mart, asahi (sp?), mitsuwa and the place a couple blocks from mitsuwa with the better prices once every six months. The first time I drove them down we had to tie bags to the roof of the car they bought so much. We are due for a trip soon so they can stock up on staples, but I haven't seen anything like this at the stores yet. A real regret was Cermak coming to Milwaukee - they apparent took the space that h-mart was looking to get to expand into our area. When the rumor hit that h-mart was moving to the area my friend from HK literally did cartwheels she was so excited. Pacific produce and the asian mall on Mill rd do not an h-mart make.

In any event, the kid and I think we have a solution for a grab and go lunch that can be made ahead of time with little effort. I picked up a six foot clear tube, 2" outer diameter, food grade. It will be cut down to a little over a nori sheet length. Rolls will be made and cut, covered with saran. Inserted into the tube(s), two large rubber bands will do a 'x' over the ends so the rolls will not come out. This way there is no lunch box to inspect, the rolls will be safe in the backpack, one for pre-lunch snack, two for lunch with fruit, and one for after school pre-weight training. No issues with crushing, etc. he can take out as much as he wants and know that the rest is safe. Obviously, no fish in the rolls since there will be no refridgeration. Low weight, etc. not as east as putting in rice and seasonings into the "smart han" but a far cheaper compromise.

A couple of his friends and other parents like this idea. I may have a new business!
