Hi- As I have mentioned before, I am a member of Dominick's J4U program, which I love. At least several times a week, I get emails from Dominick's, enticing me to log into their site, so I can find out what deals they have for me that I can apply to my fresh values card. Right now there is a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich, which people can add to their card.
When I just opened up my most recent email from Dominick's, they were trying to entice me to buy seafood such as crab and lobster from them. I can't see myself buying frozen lobster from them. At the end of the email I was taken aback by their mention of the fact that Safeway has been named #1 in seafood sustainability among the 20 national supermarkets Greenpeace looked at. Whole Foods apparently also received high marks from Greenpeace.
Apparently Greenpeace gave Safeway high marks partly because they have come out with a store brand version of canned tuna which has been sustainably caught. Apparently this store brand is cheaper than any of the national brands such as chicken of the sea or bumblebee.
Does anyone here ever buy seafood from Dominick's? I did not think that they were particularly sustainable. Any other comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Nancy
