Hi,
We need the LTHforum community's help identifying damaged posts with truncated content. There are 2500 topic threads which need review up to any post originating before or on March 17, 2005 when LTHforum moved to a new webhost. To allow a moderator to repair these posts, a copy of
LTHforum 2.0 from April 24, 2008 has been sitting quietly for our reference whenever a moderator encountered a flawed post or someone reported it.
Pretty soon this backup will be removed when LTHforum is upgraded and moved to another server. There were 2800 topics potentially affected by truncated posts, while most have been cleaned up whenever they were reported or come upon. There was an effort to systematically review threads, though only ten percent were reviewed and where needed were repaired.
To sweeten your interest, I will be delighted to make a pie for whomever reviews the most posts. Everyone else, there will be another pie via raffle. For each range of posts committed and finished, will be one chance.
How did all this happen? When LTHforum.com was 10 months old, it moved to a new webhost. Like all moves, there were a few bumps and scrapes discovered after the movers left. In our case, we acquired a few new characters.
Best Cauliflower I ever ate Best Cauliflower I Ever Ate
Ive never been a huge fan of cauliflower; I always thought of it as broccolis albino brother, pale and for the most part not very interesting, though being a cruciferous veg, full of cancer-fighting beta-carotene, blah, blah, blah.
Anyhow, the October Saveur (page 95) has a killer and supremely easy recipe for cauliflower that is definitely the best I ever ate. To summarize, you basically oven roast a pan of bread crumbs and a pan of cauliflower that's been sauted in olive oil; mix together with black oil-cured olives, salt and pepper.
Magnificent simplicity and superb.

We learned these symbols were caused by people composing their posts offline on their word processors, then copying and pasting them in LTH's dialogue box. While annoying, one could still read past them to get to the content. A few people went back to repair these posts to their original condition.
A few years later when LTHforum's software was upgraded, we had long forgotten about these characters. When spot checking for any irregularities, we never thought to look for these old posts. Unfortunately, those bad characters caused affected posts to be truncated exactly where first encountered. Thus today this post looks like this:

How to help Check the list below to pledge a range of posts to check. I am very happy if you will do one set of topics. Once done, please repost and I will bold the topic as finished. I will update these lists whenever possible.
I did a spot check of topics
2501-2525. I found two threads with truncated posts needing repair and three non-existent topics. I did check once the
LTHforum 2.0 archive to verify if a post was damaged or was stated as intended by the author. To go through 25 topics takes about 10-15 minutes.
There are 100 sets posts needing review in bundles of 25 topics.
For example, if you agreed to check topics 25-50, you would put this url in your browser:
LTHforum V3 Current: http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=25You will find there is no topic thread, then move on to topic 26 by editing 25 to 26 at
t=25 in the url.
Once you identify a damaged post, then click the report button
!. A moderator will come by to repair it. Remember once you are past March 17, 2005, you are done with any thread.
If you doubt whether a post is damaged or not, then check the archive:
LTHforum V2 Archive: http://lthforum.com/bb2019utf8/viewtopic.php?t=25You can navigate this archive to any topic number by editing
t=25 to any other topic number.
Please note some of these threads may not exist. Sometimes people start a topic, then change their mind and delete it or it is a topic on an unseen moderator board (yes Virginia, there is one).
