We're all looking to go out and grab some food Thursday with the usual work crowd, coming from the Merchandise Mart. Looking for something above-average, but not exactly "fine dining". Everyone loves craft beer, whiskey, and anything interesting. Not to steer any suggestions too much, but I had in mind perhaps an upscale burger joint with great beer. Also, trying not to go too far outside the Loop/River North area.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys. :D

GT Fish & Oyster. Terrific seafood in a small plates format, nice beer list, great craft cocktails, casual atmosphere, not horribly expensive.

    A possibility:

Stout Barrel House (Burger + Craft Beer):

642 North Clark Street Chicago, IL 60654
    (312) 475-1390

Their site is down now...It turns into an (obnoxious) bar/scene late night, but I think it would be good for lunch. Chris Curren is the chef there...he used to be the chef at Blue 13 nearby (which has since closed). Upscale bar food with a decent beer selection (not sure about their Whiskey selection.) Good Luck.

For the criteria you list, Primebar would be pretty good.

Has anyone tried Dragon Ranch Moonshine and BBQ? We keep meaning to but haven't - it's in the right location for your request and the whiskey, bourbon and moonshine option has a certain appeal.

Slurping turtle could be interesting if people are ok with being slightly adventurous.

Haymarket. Food is good enough (wide variety) and beer is unbeatable (their own and others selection).

Does this include the Rogers Park Hop Haus? Not that it would be a great loss ...

There was nothing about the RP Hop Haus closing. The Rogers Park location has been a decent spot to go with friends to watch whatever sporting event we care about.
