Frozen coconut fruit purée

Hello,

I'm looking for frozen coconut fruit puree - preferably the brands ravifruit or boiron, but if push comes to shove, any is fine. They usually come in tubs (white for boiron and transparent for ravifruit).

I intend to use it for dessert and have tried coconut milk/cream as substitute but the texture and taste was less than ideal.

Anyone knows where I'm likely to find frozen purée?

try a grocery like cermak produce or pete's market which have lots of latino products. i can't say i've ever seen coconut puree, but i've never looked. i buy passionfruit and mora (blackberry) at very reasonable prices compared to ravifruit (which i only buy wholesale, so can't help you find it retail). these fruits come in flattened vacuum sealed packages with minimal sugar added.

I thought European Imports is only open for retail sales a couple days every few months when they get rid of their short-dated stock and some other items. Certainly doesn't hurt to call.

Both Goya and El Sembrador offer coconut puree. At least I think it's a puree. I've bought other fruits from both companies but never coconut so I'm not sure about its texture. If you can't find it at your local Latin American grocer, I'd specifically recommend the Pete's Fresh Market at 4343 S Pulaski. I believe they carry both Goya and El Sembrador frozen fruit purees. Even though I don't remember seeing coconut puree in their freezer (could well be there though), the manager is extremely accommodating and would probably be happy to order it (assuming one of his distributors carries it).

Here are a couple of on-line resources that have cocunut puree among dozens of other hard to find items. I've purchased things from Albert Uster Imports many times and always found them to be of the highest quality (especially chocolate) but you usally have to buy in pretty large quantities (e.g. for the fruit purees you need to buy 12 1-kg tubs but you can mix and match). Stumbled oupn the Gourmet Food World site by accident and they have exactly what you are looking for (ravifruit brand) and you can order just one tub.

I've checked with European imports; unfortunately, they do not deal with the public and don't know anyone they supply to that does.

I'm going to check whole foods at Lincoln to see if they have any frozen purees as well as pete's fresh market as suggested.

If all else fails, I'll probably go the online route (shipping is crazy expensive though )

Since you seem to be on the north side, try Harvesttime. Pretty sure they have a large selection of the Goya frozen purees.

Also on the far north side. La Unica has them in the freezer case to the right as you walk into the restaurant part.

European Imports certainly sell these brands to trade, been buying them in to my place for years now

Looking closely, the Goya (etc. other brand) frozen coconut you can buy at La Unica (and also at Golden Pacific, and likely others) is not puree. It is shredded fresh coconut meat.

Ingredients for Boiron Coconut puree are - Coconut milk 88-90%, Invert sugar syrup 10-12% (depending on diff. web sites listing ingredients, not sure if that is by weight or volume)

I got some organic Creamed Coconut, and plan to mix it with water and sugar to replicate the proportions of the Coconut puree.
1 part Creamed Coconut + 5 parts water = Coconut Milk, not sure how much sugar to add...
(also, fwiw 1 part Creamed Coconut + 2.5 parts water = Coconut Cream )
