    Welcome to the 34th Exchange!

In honor of the Oscars the following week, I'm making this a themed exchange. Every year I post on an Oscar party that never happens, so this year we'll make it the dessert exchange. For ideas, feel free to check out this thread: http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f= ... =0#p175999
To make it easier, there is no need to make something from a movie released this year, you can get inspirations from any Oscar nominees throughout time or another movie-themed dessert.

Note: I have a friendly kitty who will insist on a scratch behind the ears.
Note: If anyone has an aversion to fish, let me know.

    Basic exchange rules:
    1) I will provide a light dinner.
    2) Bring one dessert, no need to double or triple the recipe, there's always plenty!
    3) Bring containers for taking your samples home.
    4) Come hungry!

    ATTENDEES

I'm in; not sure what I'm making it this point but that should be interesting considering the theme. I also don't go to the movies, so I'll have to pick my daughter's brain.

sounds like fun. please count me in. Does it have to be oscar nominated? pielady, this isn't clear.

    ...or another movie themed dessert
    what does this mean?

if NOT, then i'm going to make this easy for myself and pick a favorite john sayles film for inspiration called passion fish. i'll make a dessert with passion fruit in it. and 'if i'm lyin', i'm dyin;.' (something vondie curtis-hall says in the movie that i still remember) joan

No, it doesn't have to be nominated. Other movie themed desserts could be a cake decorated to look like a film reel, etc. I like this idea but I'm too lazy to bother:

The passion fruit dessert sounds good to me! I'd like to hear everybody's story about how they came up with their dessert.

Count me in. No idea as to what my finished contribution will be, but it will have elements of chocolate and cacao nibs and coffee. A film noir type dessert. Dark but satisfying.

My contribution will be Twix Chocolate Pie. It will encompass the movies Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty for the dark chocolate, and Amour, because chocolate is love. Perhaps it should also include The Silver Lining Playbook because the silver lining will be the caramel in the middle.

Add me to the list. Not sure what I will make yet. Have to think on the theme a bit.

I am not much of a fish person, what were you thinking of serving?

Pasta salad with salmon. But I can make another little something on the side. I will also have prosciutto crostini.

I'm pretty sure I can adapt the salad to contain chicken instead. I'll just divide the pasta and have a half-bowl of each.

    Hi everyone,

I would like to join the February exchange. I'm pretty sure that I will make apple pie, inspired by one of my favorite movies, When Harry Met Sally. There will be strawberry ice cream and whipped cream, real not out of a can, and everything can be "on the side." :)
Sorry the video is so gigantic. Totally worth it though :)

We should probably start thinking of this. I'm sure several people will have plans for March 17th as it is St. Patrick's Day. March 24th may be during Spring Break for others, so right now I'll lobby for March 10th.

    Hi,

I will bring a cheesecake. If you find a movie it fits into, it will make my day. Or maybe it could be a tribute to Betty Grable and all those cheesecake pictures of she made during World War II. (It does help I have all the ingredients in-house.)

I will not be making the dessert exchange after all. I came down with something Thursday night and I'm still not feeling up to par. As of last night I didn't have an appetite and my stomach still isn't feeling right this morning. I don't want to risk the possiblilty of infecting anyone else.

Enjoy the evening; I look forward to seeing the photos and the movie connections.

As it turns out I will be bringing Alexander Valley Prune Cake, an old fashioned recipe I have had since the 1970's or so.
