If you were looking for sushi for lunch in the N. Michigan Ave.-ish area, and your choices were limited to Sushi Taiyo, RA Sushi, and Naniwa, which would you choose?

    Ginza.

I'm going to be like boudreaulicious and not actually stick to your choices, but I would recommend NoMI. They actually have a nice sushi bar.

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone said Ginza, but I didn't think it would be the very first reply. Actually, no, I did.

Did not know about NoMi having a sushi bar. That's good info.

I have not been to any of those, but do have a friend who thinks Naniwa is the best sushi place in Chicago. FWIW.

My friend and I who meet downtown for lunch weekly sometimes go to Naniwa, and we've always been pleased. But I was wondering if there were someplace we should go to expand our horizons.

I checked out NoMi's sushi menu, and while I'm sure the fish is good, it's astronomically priced. I mean, I get that it's NoMi, but still.

There being no enthusiasm for RA or Taiyo around these parts, perhaps we will give Ginza a try. I know the following statement is very bourgeois of me, but I've always been concerned about the somewhat dingy and "downmarket" way it looks from the street. I know, I know, I need to get over that.

Believe me, I know that feeling--frankly, I worked a few blocks from Ginza for many years and never tried it until an LTH lunch a few years ago. I also know that sometimes the atmosphere and location of a place can be as important as the food--I know, more blasphemy. It's just that the typical mayo-roll options around the Gold Coast are so uninspiring, I gave up trying to get that in that area unless Ginza was acceptable to whomever I was eating with. Honestly, I'd rather go to Big Bowl than any of the mentioned sushi spots. I did just think of another place, though I haven't been--Jellyfish. It's supposed to be very good but I'm sure it's pricy too--worth a look maybe. Let us know if you find anything!

I didn't know whether my friend would "sign on" for Ginza--but he did, and we went. We both had the Sushi Deluxe assortment. We both were really happy. And we discovered we both were thinking the same thought: Why have we not been coming here for the last ten years?

    Thank you.

Somehow I've never even heard of Ginza. Will have to check that out. A quick look of their menu and I see the nigiri isn't overpriced for Chicago, which is a great sign. Ra Sushi is decent, nothing amazing, but there's far worse you could get sushi wise than Ra. NoMi is definitely overpriced, especially for Chicago. I find the same with Sushisamba Rio.
