Stopped at Whole Foods today, and saw this bottle of Mulled Wine:

I thought the bottle looked "fun", and it was $5.99, so I grabbed a bottle to warm up to on the coldest night in 3 years....fully expected it to be like the warm stuff you drink at Chriskindl market that is "interesting", but only cause it's different - I don't actually like it.

I have never tried warm "Mulled Wine" before, but I have to say I was a fan. I find most warm alcoholic beverages finish a bit rough on the throat, unless they're coffee or chocolate based. This wine finished smooth, was very sweet - but not so sweet I couldn't enjoy it spicy plate of Morocaan-themed stir fry using some "Ras-el Hanout" I grabbed at Pinch Spice Market today in Bucktown/Wicker Park.

On a side note, the Ras-el Hanout spice from Pinch was fantastic - nice level of spice that you taste right away, but it never elevates to a burn

We finished the bottle, feeling toasty & jolly just as the label promised. I'll get another if I happen to be at Whole Foods soon.
I love comfortable food, and comfortable restaurants.

I sometimes make my own mulled wine, but I often have a bottle of the rather good Glunz family Glögg in my cupboard in case of a party. I've only seen it in Andersonville at the liquor store at Foster/Clark, so maybe I'll start getting Mrs. Beasley's when I don't have time to go up north.
