We have had an older "office style" cooler that got water very cold, but ate energy. We have been through two more energy efficient solid state Peltier junction cooling units, but they do not get the water cold enough for her.

To help "she who must be obeyed" in her latest diet, is anyone aware of a counter top compressor unit and where I might be able to look at one? I am assuming that the newer compressor units use much less power than our old one. According to my better two-thirds, she is only drinking the commercially filtered water due to the taste. My son and I find no difference between home filtered and the delivered, but.....

Oh - love ya honey if you see this post!

You are already paying to run the fridge, and the pitcher doesn't take up much room.

Tim, I think exvaxman is looking for a source for filtered water, not just a way to chill water. Nice pictures though. (Some fridges have a dispenser for filtered water, some don't.)

One idea is to get a Brita filter and just keep that in the fridge.

My office uses a countertop unit from Accupure that hooks up to a water line and dispenses hot and cold filtered water. It is not silent, but it's more quiet than a mini fridge. It appears that Accupure focuses on the business market and basically rents these units by the month.

I guess I was figuring he'd still buy the 5 gal jugs of water, but instead of running the cooler on the dispenser, just put it in a pitcher in the fridge. Or, just buy a simple uncooled dispenser, and put it in a pitcher in the fridge. I guess I wasn't very clear about where the water came from, I was trying to save him energy.

I'm with FreezerPig here. Buy a couple of Brita pitchers and you're good to go. Keep it simple.
