We can be so eager to try the next place, especially when traveling, that we sometimes overlook the pleasures that can come from being a regular. I discovered this for myself when I went to Rome, but recently came across this wonderful post from a family that is spending a year traveling around the world with their children.

    The Pleasure of Being Known

At the next table sat an elderly couple from Geneva. We struck up a conversation. ”How long have you been in Bilbao?” we asked. ”Three days,” the wife replied. ”Where else have you eaten?” we asked. ”Only here,” she answered. Her explanation was succinct. ”The food is quite delicious here, the people are friendly, so all three nights we said let’s go again.” At the time, this sounded odd. Four days later, we understood exactly what she meant.

Do take a minute (it's not much longer than that) to watch the video.

What a lovely video - thanks!

It reminded me of a conversation I had with the Gen. Mgr of Sable when they first opened. He said that they know that a successful place is more than the food and drink and involved the connection to customers - and their team has really delivered on that, making us feel so comfortable and like "regulars" even before we actually were. That's the magic that makes real success.
