Old thread here! I just found this website while surfing the Internet for restaurants from my youth...
@David Hammond, yes, we used to frequent the Henrici's in Oakbrook. On weekends my mom would take us there and I loved the all u can eat chicken. I wonder how I would like it now?

The place had long rows of booths - faux fancy is a great description.

Thanks for letting me know they have come back. I grew up within walking distance of Woodfield, and the magic pan was directly across from the pet store where I bought my tropical fish (before I could drive). Farrell's ice cream parlor and hot Sam were great treats from that era as well.

Don't frequent Northbrook court much, but I'm fairly certain the Magic Pan there closed a couple years ago. I'm sure somebody can confirm.

The only one I have seen lately is at the Mall of America in Minn.

Only the Mall of America location is listed. Yelp and few other sites say that it's gone. This thread did cause me to scrounge up a "real" chicken divan recipe though

I recall eating at the Magic Pan. I remember the chicken crepes which was usually my choice. They also had something where they cut the crepes in pieces and deep fried them, sprinkled them with powder sugar and served them with an apricot brandy type sauce. I really loved that. I also recall eating at an establishment called the Flying Frenchman which was somewhere near Rush street or Streeterville. Loved the crepes suzettes. And of course loved La Creperie. The buckwheat crepes with ham and cheese with some mushrooms on top was my favorite and then I liked the strawberry banana crepes with whipped cream for dessert. Loved the plain crisp green salad with oddly compelling dressing.
