with a rare, free Sunday evening in a couple of weeks I'm hoping to take advantage of a restaurant's creative Sunday menu offerings. thinking Balsan Sunday supper menu, I used to enjoy Blue 13's, and I'm sure there are many more out there. as these specials are often promoted in creative ways (ie facebook, twitter, email, etc.) I thought LTH would be a great place to put together a list.

restaurants often update their offerings, so double checking with a specific restaurant is a good idea. below is a mix of Sunday-only offerings and specially priced on Sundays prix-fixe menus.

please post with any Chicago-area restaurants with Sunday evening special offerings.

    thanks!

    Anteprima - $29 3-course
Autre Monde Cafe - $40 Spanish Sunday Suppers
    Balsan - $31pp Sunday supper
    Bistro LM - $30 3-course
Browntrout - 50% off all bottles of wine, gunthrop farms fried chicken, live bluegrass 6-9pm
    Chez Moi - $29 3-course featuring 5p-630p
Embeya - $29pp or $50 with wine pairing - simple Sundays
    Gather - $26pp - Sunday Dinner
    Kinzie Chop House - $28 3-course
Mercat a la Planxa - $45pp 4-course Sunday Suckling Pig Suppers (2 person minimum)
    Pecking Order - $24pp ($12pp for 11yrs old & under) - family-style set menu 4p-7p, see website for details
    Piece - large pizza & a growler - to-go
Ruxbin - reservations accepted on Sundays
Scofflaw - blue plate special - offering and price change weekly
    Socca - $25 3-course
    Takashi - kaiseki $73 7-course, bev pairings $45 or $100 11-course, bev pairings $55
Yusho - $20 noodle dish, dessert & beverage - Sunday noodles
(closed)Leopold - $30 3-course featuring mussels with wine or beer pairing

edited to add to the list

This is a great post. I seem to recall that someone recently posted about some place in the city that does a chicken dinner for the first few guests who show up. For the life of me, though, I can't seem to locate that post. Perhaps someone recalls which restaurant this was? Thanks!

Does the special need to be available only on Sundays, or can it be available on other days as well?

For example, Anteprima has a special prix fixe, any three courses (including app-entree-dessert or app-half pasta-entree) for $29. It's available Sundays through Thursdays.

as long as it's available on Sunday for dinner it can count. :)

thanks - I couldn't find anything about the prix fixe on the Anteprima website even though it was listed on opentable. I'll take your word for it and add it to the list.

just called scofflaw and was told that the blue plate special has replaced the winner, winner chicken dinner. blue plates do sound very good and appear to get posted on their facebook page.

I know that's true; I noticed that myself (on both websites) and found it it rather surprising. Apparently that special has been in effect for several years - whether it's continuously, I'm not sure - based on numerous references to it in the big Anteprima discussion here. When I ate there on a weekday a couple of weeks ago, the special was mentioned on a card on the table and my server also mentioned it, so it's not like you have to ask to find out about it or anything.

Marty Fosse and I have offered the three course fixed priced menu at Anteprima for the last five years. I think we originally started the fixed priced menu based on the Restaurant Week model. The menu is offered Sunday through Thursday. Even though the $29 pricing has remained the same over the last five years, we have seen a shift away from guests ordering the fixed priced menu and instead choosing several appetizers. As a related offering, Marty just put in place Sunday Famly Lunch at Anteprima from noon till 3pm. The lunch includes a 3-course and 4-course menu at $19 and $25 respectively; an ala carte option is also available. Thanks for pointing out the lack of information on our web site about the fixed price menu.

Tim - I'd like to add that I thought my meal at Anteprima was outstanding. This was my first time at Anteprima, and between the delicious food and the value of the prix fixe, I went home eager to return soon and often (as well as kicking myself for waiting till now to try a restaurant that I had heard so many good things about).

ended up going to Yusho for the Sunday noodles special and was very happy with it. I'll post a couple of details in the Yusho thread.

looking forward to trying more of the Sunday special menu options.

    From Autre Monde's Website:
Come in on Sundays and celereate with us the Spanish way of having a good diner or a ” Cena” as the Spaniard would say. The menu at Spanish Sunday Suppers will vary to our chef’s inspiration. Right now we are featuring the tapas culture of Barcelona! So if you want to experience it, try our fantastic menu for only $40.

    From Grubstreet:

Mercat a la Planxa is launching Sunday Suckling Pig Suppers, or as they say over there, Cochinillo Asado Sunday Suppers, a four-course menu including pork feast. Wait, you say, haven't they always had that? Yes, but you had to get together a large party of your own to share the pig— now you can just order it on Sunday nights for as few as two people for $45 per.

I went to Anteprima a few Sundays ago for their Sunday Family Lunch. The menu is very similar to their everyday dinner menu - perhaps slightly briefer, but with pretty much the same dishes, same portion sizes, etc. And again, the food is absolutely outstanding. The pricing... well, their $29 three-course dinner deal is a terrific bargain. So getting three courses for $19 (or four for $25) by going on Sunday afternoon is ridiculous, maybe the best food bargain in the entire city.
