Hey guys - long-time lurker from Phoenix...

You may know my buddy Dmnkly who's joined us down here in the desert of Phoenix - I'm visiting his former home of Chicago and he sent me over to say hi. :D

I'm headed in for business 3/5 - 3/6 and decided to break from the group and stay somewhere downtown so I can get out and eat a bit. The last time I was near Chicago for business, I was stuck out in Oakbrook Terrace - not exactly ideal - that's my only experience in/or near your town. Due to our lack of good Thai food in Phoenix, Dom thinks I should hit Aroy. After a little bit of research, I've found Sticky Rice is nearby, and well, I'm interested in both.

Anyone interested in having a meal? I'm traveling alone, so I'd welcome the company and conversation. Cheers.

I'm so bummed that I can't be there to take you myself!

I still haven't been to Sticky Rice, but man, you're going to love Aroy. I'm really excited to hear how it goes.

There's so much you shouldn't miss @ both you'll need some ordering power to do it justice. I could prob make it.

    Hi,

I'd be happy to join your group. If it is 7:00 pm, it will make life easier coming from the north.

    Jazzfood, you still in?

I think we'll stick with Aroy since SR is on the calendar. I am fine with doing 7pm or later - I will be taking the train from River North area.

    Happy to have you Cathy2!

Hi azhotdish. There is a major shut down with the brown line train service on the CTA this week. You may need to take the red line up to the Belmont stop and then transfer to a brown line train, which will take you right to Aroy at the Damen stop.

I somehow have never been to Aroy and plan to meet you all there.

Excellent point and a faster trip anyway. At Belmont, switch to the Brown Line (same platform) towards Kimball and exit at Damen stop (Aroy is seconds away). From Belmont, it should take about 9 minutes to reach Damen. I doubt I can make Tuesday but I'll update if I figure out a way to make it.

AZhotdish, you're in for a treat but suggest capping it @ 8. I'd be glad to contact them and make a res.

Good idea, I was going to suggest this, thanks for jumping in Jazzfood. Also AZhotdish, be aware that Aroy is BYOB.

Having just now reviewed the main thread, I'm very much looking forward to this. I'm going to turn the ordering over to whomever wishes to take it on. It all looks killer, which sadly, means I'm now starving. :|

    Hi,

Those who go to Aroy Thai more than I, what is the best number to cut this event off at and begin waitlist?

Jazzfood recommended 8 and that appears to have been agreed upon. I'll add my name to the waitlist!!

    Regards,

I've been there twice with groups of 10 or more (up to 14 I believe) and Aroy handled without a hitch - it's all up to what you decide, but the table along the wall in the back room will work well.

Since a waitlist has been started and I can't quite confirm I can make it, please turn my spot over to someone who definitely can.

    I'd be interested as well.

Any reason those of us on the waitlist can't get a table of our own seeing as there would be 5 of us?
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

It's a free country, of course, but as in the past when similar situations have occurred, I'd urge those on the waiting list to go on a different night so as not to tax the kitchen too much. Aroy isn't that big.

Look, it's a restaurant with 40+ seats. I think (actually, I know ) they can handle more than 8 diners in an evening. But maybe, if you're choosing to go on the same night, you could stagger your start-time by 30-45 minutes so they don't get hit with 2 larger groups at the exact same moment.
