A friend of my wife's just turned us on about a month ago to Blue Max Cafe in Forest Park. We've gone every saturday for breakfast since, and it's been fantastic. Huge portions of very good quiche lorraine, super flavorful omelets, huge bowls of yogurt and fresh fruit, and excellent scones that are, in fairness, more like really tasty pie crust.

Anyone passing through the near west suburbs should definitely check them out.

Was just in Blue Max yesterday picking up a bag of coffee. They've always had very solid breakfast and lunch items -- which are actually kind of hard to find in the OP/FP area, in my view. I also like their coffee, though when I used to go there more regularly for a bag of beans, we sometimes found that our favorite roast(s) didn't always have a consistent taste from visit to visit-- not sure why, maybe different roasters "behind the wheel." In any event, the guy who runs this place cares about quality and wants to deliver a quality product, and for the most part, I think they really succeed. Thanks for the reminder about their food. As my 5-year old reminded me when we pulled up to grab a bag of beans, "Oh, their pancakes are awesome."

Not really a fan. In fairness, we haven't gone in about a year maybe a little more.

The last time there I had biscuits with a turkey sausage gravy that was anemic at best.
The gravy was thin, the sausage tasteless. The dish was a mess and the portion was tiny.
Before we stopped going there, and we went about a half dozen times, I always felt their serving
sizes were tiny. Breakfast entree, tiny, bowl of fruit, tiny.
I really wanted to like this place, Lord knows we gave them enough chances, but no,
they are off my list of places to go for breakfast. Really expensive for what little you got.
    Coffee was good though.

Food is so-so, though there's at least more effort to it than your usual meal-in-a-box spot. Coffee is great, though, as are the scones, which I've noticed now have a posted two scone per customer limit.

Agreed on coffee and scones, plus cocktails by Adam Segar.
