Anybody know where I can buy fresh porcini mushrooms in Chicago?

Whole Foods and Fox & Obel never carry them. Neither does "the mushroom guy" at Green City.

    Hi,

I consider dried porcini a very respectable product and often very reasonably priced.

FYI - the mushroom associated with the name porcini (Boletus edulis) has been found twice in the last two years in the Chicago area and one example each time. There is better luck finding them in Michigan. However, this is truly a wild product and with the drought in our region making it ever so much more difficult to obtain.

I received an unsolicited e-mail from someone offered fresh Boletus edulis, which I can forward if you PM or e-mail me. I cannot vouch for the person involved.

    Regards,
